Just been given the above devastating news.  Anyone else going through this?

  • Hi Gwen

I am so sorry to hear that you have been given a stage 4 diagnosis.

There are ladies on here who have all different stages and grades and some are also at a stage 4.

I understand that it is a really hard diagnosis to be given.

Although the cancer has spread, it does not mean that there is not some form of treatment available. Have they mentioned any sort of treatment plan to you yet?

Why not give the Support Line a call and talk things through with someone. They are there until 8pm tonight and then on again at 8am in the morning.

    We are here for you.

    Jane

  • Hello, I had been given Stage 3 opinion  by surgeon, but there was a lesion in my lung. Dr not certain if cancer or some other cause. I was a smoker but quit 45 years ago. So, I go to oncologist who will be doing my followup care. She seems to think I'm Stage 4, but won't know for certain about the lung thing unless there's a biopsy that they're not going to now. "Just watching the lesion for now." She also said the lung is one of the first places cancer cells migrate to. I don't know if chemo will keep a lid on the lung lesion.

I didn't dare ask for a prognosis. So, for now, I have an echocardiogram scheduled for Monday and then the chemo will start, presumably if my 81 year old heart can take it. I was terrified when I first got my DX and I'm still terrified.

One would hope for some sort of good news sometime, but it isn't happening for me. Gwen, I hope all works out for you and wish you the best!

  • Thank you this is so tough I am only 60 and my children are still reliant on me.  I wish you every piece of good news my spread is yet to be confirmed how far with ct scan of upper body but the consultant is talking slowing progress not cure its devastating for my husband

  • Hi,

I’m very sorry to hear about your diagnosis. It’s very hard news to process.

I’m not personally going through this myself but my mum was given a stage 4 diagnosis earlier this year. She’s also in her early 60s.

It was a complete shock as her symptoms were quite mild. My mum has serous endometrial which is a higher grade cancer, and it is common for it to be diagnosed at a more advanced stage. There are several other women on this forum who’ve also been diagnosed at stage 4.

This year has been tough emotionally but things have felt a lot more stable since her initial diagnosis. She’s since had surgery which went well, she’s tolerated chemo well and we’re now waiting for her post treatment scan. The initial diagnosis was probably the hardest part of the journey so far as there’s so much shock & it’s difficult waiting for more information on the scan results, stage, treatment etc. I hope that the doctors are able to provide you with more information on the possible treatment options available to you as this can help knowing what plan is in place.

I‘m sending all my love and strength to you.

  • Thank you that's so kind of you
