Hello is anyone 2 years on from cancer treatment and if so does anyone suffer from a weakened immune system still?

  • Hi Stone

I am 4 years from diagnosis and 3 1/2 years from treatment.

I did pick up things in the first year after treatment ( surgery, chemo, radiotherapy)  but after that things seemed to have returned to normal. I have had covid, colds etc but no worse than anyone else.

Which treatments did you have? Are you still having check ups?

It may be worth asking for routine blood tests just to check that there is nothing causing your lower immunity.

  • I had single agent Carboplatin chemotherapy treatment and I was really sick with it, I didn’t take to the steroids so the doctor stopped this after the first round and I went ahead with 3 more with the strongest anti sickness they could offer, i was still really sick and the whole experience was very traumatic as I ended up in a&e a lot.

all my bloods have come back fine.

I need to eat healthier so I’m looking into my diet as I’m probably not eating enough nutrients.

  • It sounds like you had a really rough time and it can take a while for your body to recover. I still have side effects now and am further on from treatment than you.

It sounds reassuring that your bloods are fine.

I had issues after radiotherapy so looking at diet and nutrients was something we went through during check ups.

There are some links here that may be of interest.

  • Thank you Jane, I’ll have a look at the link.  Not being  confident cook doesn’t help but I’m usually pretty good following a recipe, I know that my diet hasn’t been as good as it should and so I will definitely be eating more veggies.  I think it’s just going to take time to feel better.  It’s been a rough ride.
