Hi I am new here and wanted to know more about peoples experiences of brachytherapy as adjuvant therapy after a hysterectomy.
I had a total hysterectomy in September for stage 1 endometrial cancer. Everything removed and lymph nodes clear but had clear cell cancer which can be more aggressive.
I saw an oncology radiologist this week who has strongly advised 3 sessions of brachytherapy to stop reoccurrence of the cancer.
I have agreed to this but reading about it I am not sure especially regarding the tube being put into my vagina as I already have vaginal atrophy from menopause.
Thank you
Hi. Mine is stage 1b grade 3 Carcinosarcoma so u til I have my oncology appt I’m not 100% sure what I’ll be having. I know radio will be involved but how I’m not sure. Chemo was mentioned but until I go I’m not sure.
Hi
I just wanted to introduce myself.
I am 3 weeks post open hysterectomy which I am recovering well for.
I was initially diagnosed with Stage 3 Grade3 cancer but after surgery it was downgraded to Stage 1a but still Grade 3 endometroid cancer with MMR deficiency.
I have my meeting with the oncologist to discuss the pros and cons of further adjuvant treatment on Tuesday but think brachytherapy will be discussed but interested to hear everyone else’s experiences.
Hi Adele
I also had a stage 1 and grade 3 cancer. Mine was not clear cell but another type called carcinoma sarcoma.
Because a grade 3 cancer can be more aggressive and more prone to recur they do normally offer adjuvant therapy, either chemo and/or radiotherapy at an earlier stage.
My advice is to follow your consultants advice. Facing any new treatment is bound to make you feel a bit nervous and I found it helpful to talk through with my CNS/doctors each time about what would actually happen during the treatment. I sometimes also made a list of questions. Before I had my actual biopsy the nurse phoned me and talked it through and it really helped to know what to expect.

Hi CornishPixie
Welcome to the group. Am glad that you are recovering well from your surgery.
Its good that you don't have to wait too long for your appointment.
My cancer was a grade 3 and a stage 1 and my follow up treatment was chemo and external radiotherapy. I did not have brachytherapy- when I asked why they said because no cancer cells were found in my cervix. My cancer was not MMR deficient though and not sure how that affects things.
I hope your appointment goes well on Tuesday- in the meantime we are here if you need us.
Jane
Hi Jane
Thank you for replying, I feel more nervous about the brachytherapy than the hysterectomy to be honest.
It's really good to be able to chat on here though and hear about everyone's experiences.
I will be in touch with my CNS this week to get more information from her.
Take care. Xx
I felt more nervous about the follow up treatments as well. The surgery- I was just glad to get it done
Hello
just wanted to update you all post my meeting with clinical oncologist today.
As a reminder I am Stage 1a (5mm womb lining) with Grade 3 MMR deficient endometroid cancer.
I discussed both Brachytherapy and external radiotherapy but for my particular case external gave no further advantage. So going with a course of 3 treatments 1 week apart of Brachytherapy
I asked about reoccurrence and without any treatment about 10% chance with Brachytherapy down to 5% which is the same as anyone who has never had cancer.
I hope that your treatment can be done soon and goes well. In the meantime we are here if you need anything.
Good luck with the Brachytherapy, hope it’s organised soon
Hi there
I am glad you met with your oncologist today and now know what your treatment is going to be.
I had an email from the hospital today and my treatment starts next Tuesday for 3 sessions over the following week. I only met with the oncologist last Friday so I am pleased to be getting on with it.
Hopefully you will hear soon.
Take care of yourself, it's good to know others are going through this too and we can maybe share our experiences to support others. Xx
