Hi All. I now have my consultation appointment for upcoming Wednesday - i assume that i’ll be officially told about the stage and grade of my cancer. i’ve had a letter stating Stage 1a and Grade 3 following scans last week. I’ve been preparing myself for probable treatment paths, but i’m of course not an expert. What i’m frustrated about is not knowing when the hysterectomy is likely to be. This is a little more frustrating as could do with a week’s holiday with the little ‘un over Summer. Just posting to vent. Hopefully i’ll get to know more at the consultation. Lots of love out to all.
Hi OneMore and welcome! The stage 1a grade 3 is the predicted stage and grade, and you won’t find out the actual till after your hysterectomy and the histology has been done, Wednesday’s appointment could possibly be to meet your surgeon and maybe to advise you of the timing for your hysterectomy - treatment plans (other than the op) are done post op post histology when all is fully known. Your op could possibly be quite soon though you’d need a pre op appointment check first.
Thank you so much for your reply (i also love marmite by the way) i had a biopsy last month, i had a polyp removed at my gynae appointment when it was spotted during the hysteroscopy and it was sent off to rule out any nasties… which hasn’t worked out that way.. from which the grade was established … i think that was the way it went anyway…. i could very easily be wrong. The staging accuracy may be a different story. I hope the op is soon. The time from diagnosis (26th June) until now has been a weird time-shifting scenario… in some ways it’s flown but in others less so. i’ll ring my lovely nurse to sound out realistic holiday expectations on Monday. How are things with you? x
The grade often stays the same post op, but I have known cases where the grade has changed, so I’d suggest still holding it lightly. Difficult I know! I’m good thanks - my diagnosis was end 2021, and my op (and treatment) 2022 and I’m still cancer-free as far as I know!
Hello, I completely understand where you’re at with this just now. I was diagnosed on the 6 June, had preop assessment on the 26 June and saw a different consultant (different hospital) on the 3 July, ct scans done urgently on the 4th July and the hysterectomy done on the 7 July. The month between diagnosis and predicted grade/staging until surgery felt like a year passed in the time. But, I was transferred to (my fourth) consultant, a new hospital and had to have more scans done in that time. It felt like I was always waiting, refreshing my patient app, and jumping when the phone rang. The waiting is terrible, but they’re doing things as fast as they can.
I’m now 13 days post surgery and waiting for histology and my follow up appointment. That’s another ‘long’ wait - in my head…but realistically, I know the histology takes 2-3 weeks, then the results go to MDT before I see my consultant again.
It’s a process, but they’re doing everything they can for us.
Do you already have your surgeon’s details?
Sending you hugs while you wait. Xx
Hi, thank you for this, i hope you’re doing well with the recovery to this part of the process xxx I hope the follow-up consultation goes well, has any other treatment been discussed yet?
I have a new/different Consultant for the upcoming consultation… i think she is a surgeon … but i’m not sure to be honest. Am sure i’ll find out soon enough… I hope! It’s a learning curve. It’s all a bit odd as i feel fine health wise… which is a great thing… strange to think that I could be feeling less fine in a couple of months. It’s not the surgery i’m bothered about, it’s not knowing yet about treatment beyond. Timescale wise the holiday opportunity window is bothering me. Would be good to squeeze a week away in next week (uk holiday … the plan to go further afield has been grounded).
Again, thank you for your reply it’s very much appreciated xxx
Could I ask how you got your polyp biopsy result? I had hysteroscopy with polyp removal 2.5 weeks and am awaiting the result, on the two week wait pathway. Marmite kindly said that she got a phone call, so I’m expecting a letter if nothing serious and a phone call if more serious.
Hello, I’m recovering well thank you. I had a robot assisted total radical (I think I’ve got that right) and I was up and walking same day. I had one night in hospital, but was home next day after the catheter was removed. I’m walking a little more each day, and the external wounds are healing nicely.
I don’t know about further treatment yet, though I know I’ll find out more at the next consultation, once we have the results and confirmation of grade and stage.
Not knowing and waiting is hard, but I’m focussing on the positives, my recovery and doing everything I can to stay strong.
Hang in there. Always happy to chat, if it would help.
x
