Hi newly diagnosed with Low grade womb cancer. Radical key hole hysterectomy booked for 8th May.
Day stay.
Just wondering if I will have a catheter fitted?
Forgot to ask at my pre assessment today.
Many thanks.
Hi I went to see my menopause nurse on 15th March. I was fast tracked to gynecology. I got my appointment at the hospital on 3rd April. I had an ultrasound and internal scan. That showed an unusual thickening of my womb lining. She took a biopsy and she mentioned cancer was possible. The following week on 10th I was back in gynecology. Stage 1 low grade womb cancer. Had an x-ray. They booked my surgery there and then. Did want to do it on 1st May but I have a wedding on the 4th. Because it was low grade they said it was not a problem.
Met my oncologist at that appointment. I've had phone calls from her checking I was ok with everything. And also had my Pre assessment appointment on 16th May.
Also had phonecall from them to check.
Have been very well looked after.
I had a total laparoscopic hysterectomy for grade 2 womb cancer on Monday. Had a catheter for just under 24 hours. I’d been really worried about it, but it wasn’t uncomfortable and meant I didn’t have to struggle to get out of bad. I did have a slight problem after removal with slight urine leakage, and the consultant kept me in slightly longer to check it was settling down, but I was still home yesterday evening. I was expecting wind pain in my diaphragm from the gas inserted during the operation, but I wasn’t expecting as much pain from wind in my bowels, which I was told is because they slow down due to being moved about through the operation. However, I’ve woken up quite comfortable this morning after a good nights sleep in my own bed.
Hi hope you're recovery goes well. Thanks for your help.
Diagnosed last September 2024 had follow up course of branch therapy. The scars soon heal but your left with the emotional aspect of the feeling of what makes a women a women : loss of a uterus it’s such a loss, the fatigue and worry of cancer returning in the pelvic area or elsewhere is very real. The diagnosis itself is very real and difficult to process as usually the turn around for the operation is quick. I won’t lie it’s been a struggle with so many losses, unable to work, it’s true unless you have been there and the words “I am sorry yes you have cancer “ no one really understands.
So sorry it's been tough for you.
I think because I have low grade cancer I'm not too worried. I'm going through the menopause and was never able to have children so to me having my womb removed doesn't mean I'm less of a woman but maybe I will feel different when I have my operation next week.
Everyone has their own battle.
I do have a fear of it spreading but will deal with that in due course.
I've never had so many people ask how I am .
I'm lucky enough to have a very supportive better half.
I sometimes wonder if I should be more worried.
When I got diagnosed, I thought, ok what's the plan.
I really hope you have all the support you deserve .
I completely understand what you’re saying. I accessed some counselling following my breast cancer treatment, and although it wasn’t a quick fix, I felt it gave me some ideas to move forward. Remember everyone here in this community understands exactly how you’re feeling.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
