Hi newly diagnosed with Low grade womb cancer. Radical key hole hysterectomy booked for 8th May.

Day stay.

Just wondering if I will have a catheter fitted?

Forgot to ask at my pre assessment today.

Many thanks.

  • Hi love, I had the same diagnosis as you. I had a total hysterectomy etc. I did have a catheter fitted which was removed when I went home the next day. I also had 2 drains coming from my tummy, again taken out before I went home. I’m not going to lie, it proper hurt when they removed them so take deep breaths. Good luck sweetheart xxx

  • Hi I had my operation 9 weeks ago. Mine was a one night stay. The catheter was inserted in theatre but was removed at 8pm so it was in for about 8 hours.
Sorry I can’t comment on a day op but that was my experience.

You could contact the CSN tomorrow to ask

    good luck

  • Hi Nettie6970

    Welcome to the womb group.

Sorry to hear that you have had a diagnosis of womb cancer.

I had a catheter fitted after I was under anaesthetic. It was taken out the following morning- around 4am.

I didn't have any issues with it.

  • Did anyone have it done key hole and came out the same day.

  • I didn’t, but I would have loved to! My hospital was in the process of setting up the process for same day hysterectomies at the time I had mine. I think some hospitals send home with catheters and some don’t, so it would be best to give your CNS a call. If it’s any consolation, they’d have been unlikely to tell you at your pre assessment as that’s usually done by a general nursing team, not specifically gynae or cancer team.

  • Thanks for your reply.
