Hi everyone, I’m so worried & looking to have a chat with you guys that are going through the same. I’m coming up 43 I’ll give you a little background on me. In 2021 I had irregular bleeding spotting between periods had bloods taken an ultrasound & biopsy all come back clear. The spotting eventually did stop. Last year 2023 started spotting again a week before period was due I wasn’t to concerned as thought it’s probably due to my age & that I hadn’t long been given all clear. This year 2024 spotting is occurring more I had a smear come back low grade cells I was diagnosed with vain specialist are happy to see me next year at clinic and hopefully they would have changed back to normal. Still spotting& concerned phoned nurse she said the spotting wouldn’t be from low grade cells. Went to gp she wasn’t concerned and said it’s not normal but could be my normal I’m probably perimenopause that didn’t sit right with me I asked can I have further tests. September this year had bloods they come back normal, had ultrasound 22nd October endometrial lining 10.8mm my period was due in 2 days seen some free fluid in pelvis which I know could maybe be from period due. Ultrasound have found soft tissue 32 x 7.5 mm some linear vascalarity noted on Doppler imaging that is suggestive of a feeder vessel. The echogenicity changes and becomes hypoechoic I’m worried out of my mind, I’ve googled these medial names and reading all negative the impression on report is unsure whether this is due to spotting period due polyp or pathology. I’ve got a biopsy this afternoon I can’t stop thinking it’s the worst as I googled polyps don’t usually show as hypoechoic. Today I’m always due on my period in 2 days so not sure if they will get a clear view. I’ve been spotting almost everyday since beginning of October would a polyp really cause this? Sorry for the long post just looking for someone to get back to me who’s going through the same xx
Hi Rosie.
I don’t understand fully your particular circumstances but try not to panic and worry you will get the correct diagnosis more or less from this biopsy. I had endometrial low grade cancer and had full hysterectomy bi-lateral saplingo-oopherectomy and diagnosis has stayed the same. It is a worrying time to say the least I’m sorry to hear you’re struggling with it all. Take one step at a time and look after yourself take some breaks, go for a walk and surround yourself with support, Maggies centres for cancer are a great drop in.. it’s been helpful to me. Talk to a counsellor macmillan and other charities local to you can offer support it can be a lonely time. Hope it all goes well.
Hi Rosieposie
Welcome to the Womb group.
I am sorry to hear of your bleeding and worries about your scan. I can understand that it is a scary time.
So looking at the picture so far- you have had spotting on and off for a while. It was all clear in 2021 which is good.
In 2024 you were checked again and it was diagnosed as VIN, which they hope will naturally return to normal and do not seem too concerned about.
So up to then you have been checked and all ok. So if something has developed it is more recently. And if something is found then its best to find it early. Early endometrial cancer is usually very treatable.
September bloods have come back normal which is also a positive sign. Where they suspect a cancer they tend to look for specific markers.
Yes your endometrium is thicker than normal but if you are due your period this could be down to this and also the free fluid.
There could be other causes for your symptoms other than cancer and they tend to want to rule out the most serious potential causes first. That is why they have done the ultrasound and are doing the biopsy. The medical language they use for the ultrasound is hard to understand for non medical people but I would advise against google and instead perhaps consider calling the Support Line and speaking with one of the nurses.
A biopsy is the only way of confirming whether there is any cancer present. It will not matter if you are bleeding when they do the biopsy- I know that was something I was concerned about and was told that it wasn't an issue.
I hope today goes ok and in the meantime we are here if you need us.
Jane
