Got the news yesterday so a bit she’ll shocked

Not a club I wanted to join but think it’s gonna be a one I definitely need as a bit shell shocked after the news yesterday from the hospital.

I went through the menopause with no real worries to be honest. No HRT or anything and thought that was that 10 years ago.

Had a teeny show .. and I mean a teeny one maybe the size of my fingernails. Friends nagged me to get checked out so I begrudgingly did even tho I thought it wasn’t worth doing as so small a symptom.

Fast forward to Monday and a phone call saying I needed to go in yesterday (Tuesday) and to bring someone with me .. alarm bells straight away as said I’d get a letter after they did a biopsy.

Got told I had cancer.. nurse was absolutely amazing and knew I was panicking and managed to get me a mri scan etc straight away to try and get my info for a meeting they have today .. wasn’t guaranteed and could be the next one in 2 weeks as a bit short a time.

Said once they had info they’d know more and where I’d have the operation etc.

Not had pains or anything or anymore bleeding apart  from the day before my biopsy and that wasn’t anything major… the daft thing is since yesterday Iv not got a pain as such but it feels different… I can’t explain.. just feel more aware of ‘down there’ … is it me being daft or is it you just think about it now and thinking of what’s going on down there now you know something isn’t right … I’m not explaining this very well lol

Sorry for the long waffling post at 5am Iv just woke up and head going 100 mph with stuff x

  • Think that’s the worst but not knowing what’s going on .. if I knew the plan I could maybe get it sorted in my head a bit more.

Just doesn’t feel real at the min it’s like it’s someone else I’m talking about not me.

Hope you are ok Heartpulse x

  • Yes doing well thanks! Resume travels next month with a trip to Japan. Smiley

  • Ohhh very nice Heart️ aww I hope you have a fabulous time x

  • Hi Geordiesuzie

Welcome to the club no one wants to join, but everyone is lovely and helpful.

I was the same as you no symptoms, apart from a few ‘shows’ but not everyday.  Although for me at first I was taken down the urine infection path and unfortunately took awhile to go down the correct path, which was that. I had womb cancer.

Once you find out though, the waiting for results and information about what is going to happen is the worst, as your brain can go on overdrive.  Try not to think the worst, and try and occupy yourself to keep your mind busy.   It sounds like you’ve found out quite quickly so that’s good, and quite often if it’s an early stage you may only require surgery and no other treatment.

From my experience though even if you need further treatment, everyone, the nurses, doctors, oncologists and others are fantastic and you’ll be looked after and the care is first class.  I had surgery a hysterectomy and was in hospital for one night, I may have been out on the same day, however I was quite late going down for surgery so wasn’t well enough to be allowed out.  I didn’t have much pain afterwards either, only needed to take painkillers for a few days.

Im from Newcastle, and had surgery in the RVI and I had to have further treatment which was at the Freeman hospital, both excellent.  As sounds like you maybe a Geordie too.

Good luck, try not to worry too much (I know it’s hard not to) and we are all here if you need to ask anything at all.  Let us know how you get on.
    Ange

  • Aww thank you so much for that Heart

yeah I’m originally from Gateshead but moved to Ferryhill 2 years ago.

The Freeman and RVI are absolutely amazing hospitals .. had dealings with them through family over the years and are first class.

Still a bit shocked as all happened yesterday so feels 100 mph and trying to get things straight in my head today and take it all in.

Not sure what hospital I’ll be at or anything yet .. Sue the nurse at Bishop hospital was absolutely amazing. Tried to get me sorted so info could be looked at today’s meeting but was late yesterday afternoon so probably have to wait till the next one in 2 weeks time before I find out what’s going on etc when they’ve seen my MRI results.

Said probably Bishop,James Cook or Gateshead QE for the operation depending on availability etc

To try and get me fitted in the nurse rang Darlington hospital for my MRI scan as they were fully booked ..I don’t drive and busses are useless here so got me a lift from a lovely cancer volunteer driver called Hazel who came in with me and took me home.

First time Iv heard of a volunteer driver to help with appointments.. such a lovely thing to do bless them…even tho she was a Mackem and joked I couldn’t get in her car as a Toon fan Laughing

Can’t get over how lovely people are and the help Iv had on here.

Hope you are on the mend and doing good Heart️x

  • Hi

Im good thanks, I finished all my treatment in June and recovering well, going back to work in September, I’ve been off since November last year.  So getting a bit nervous about that!

I’m sure you’ll be well looked after whichever hospital you go to :0) .  There is a charity called ‘Daft as a Brush’ in the north east which take people to and from hospital if they haven’t got their own transport. I think they would operate in your area, try them, if you haven’t tried.

I wouldn’t have been keen getting in the car with a Mackem Joy!

Good luck and ask anything you want.

  • Aww I’m so pleased you are doing good and I bet it will be fine back at work.. be like you’ve never been away after the first day lol

The driver I got the other day was a volunteer from McMillan Grinning said any appointments or meetings she’s there for me or one of the other drivers.
Even ‘Mackems’ are being lovely so I’m getting worried ha ha Wink

Think it’s the waiting that’s getting to my better half and worrying about money .. find myself keep asking if he’s ok .. he’s a worrier and likes things organised in his head …  think once we know what’s what he will be fine tho ..

Good luck with work Heartpulse x

  • Hi I think we are at the same stage - had my biopsy last Friday, results yesterday by phone, consultant appt to plan next step which will incl hysterectomy, and mri next Tuesday. Really want to know the full picture as soon as i can but hopeful that a hysterectomy will be enough. Also really tired from not sleeping much x

  • Definitely sounds like we are at the same sort of point of our journey.

I got a call Monday to ask me to go to the hospital the next day .. and to take someone with me.

That had me absolutely terrified as knew it must be bad news as was told results after my biopsy would be a letter in 2-4 weeks.

Still a shock tho even tho you had a feeling it was bad news.
The nurse was fabulous tho and tried to get my mri sorted straight away that day to get my information together …as they have a meeting  on a Wednesday every two weeks to discuss upcoming operations etc they need to do.

Had the mri which was very noisy and a bit strange as had to keep still. Looks and sounds scary but it’s fine .. I just had from below my neck in it not my head or face so just looked at the ceiling.. feels like you are in for hours but it’s not Heart

Mustn't have got my info in time for yesterday’s meeting thing they do so be the next one in 2 weeks time.

Ill then find out hopefully where and what operation I’ll be having.

A big relief is also a volunteer thing that’s available here ( Durham) a driver who can take you to appointments .. busses are shocking here .. McMillan volunteer drivers who were fabulous.. lovely retired lady called Hazel took me for my mri scan as at a hospital I’d have trouble getting too.. little things like this is such a help.

Hope you get some sleep as you’ll be exhausted… I’m a good sleeper so Iv been ok so far.. my partner hasn’t slept much bless him tho. He’s shattered Cry

Message me any time … we’ve got this Heartpulse cancer can bloody do one lol xx

  • I'm here for you Suzie it was a shock but well get through it
