Hi all,

I’m not sure if this is the place to be posting as I have just joined to see if anyone can give experience of womb biopsy results.
In short, after an ultrasound for prolonged bleeding and pelvic pain it showed fibroids. I was referred to a gynae consultant. At my first appointment i had a pipelle biopsy and told to await a letter in post for my results.
In the meantime I had an email to say results were available on a portal. This is where I am asking for advice and if any of you wonderful women got their portal results before appointment letter. It says macro results are a severity 1AT in secretory endometrium. I am still waiting for second consultant appointment and don’t know what to do with this information.
Thank you for reading and really hope someone can put my mind at rest.
Sending so much admiration for you all on this group Two hearts

  • Hello Dogsarebest,

Welcome to the Online Community. You are very welcome to post any questions on here. We are not medically trained on here but can share our own experiences.

I can not explain what your results mean but we do have a section on here where you can post a question for one of the nurses to answer and they would normally reply within 3 working days.

Ask a Nurse - Macmillan Online Community

However the quickest way would be to give the Support Line a quick call and to ask one of the nurses to explain it for you. The number is at the bottom of this and they will be on from 8am tomorrow.

I had my biopsy done in March last year and the waiting for the results is not great and the medical language is not easy to understand at times. I would advise giving them a quick call tomorrow and they would hopefully be able to explain the medical language and give you some reassurance.

    Hope this helps

    Jane

  • Hi Jane,

Thank you so much for that advice. It’s good today that I can ring them tomorrow.

  • Yes- anytime between 8am and 8pm. They should be able to explain it and hopefully give you some reassurance.

  • Hi Jane,

I have phoned the number and feel a bit better, mostly for the fact that I could just speak out loud to somebody!
I explained that when I spoke to gynae secretary she told me that a letter should have been sent out immediately after the results were returned to them but for some reason it hadn’t been sent. I really do think this is the types of conversations that increase our stress levels!

I also mentioned that being sent  portal results with very brief info that is open to interpretation is not all helpful. I am 50 with a good support network but for ladies that are isolated/older this could be so traumatic. Lovely macmillan lady said this was good feedback to give to PALS. I had previously thought this was somewhere to complain but she said, no they appreciate all feedback.
Im still unsure of few words from portal saying severity 1A tumour from the secretory endometrium and would still like to hear from ladies who had experience of this but I’m feeling so much better to hear from macmillan advice that it’s okay to ring back gynae and speak to a specialist nurse while I am awaiting more info. It’s Saturday so I’ll do that on Monday.
Thank you, Jane. Got such a good feeling from you responding to me. I’m sure as most women know we don’t speak about stuff to our immediate friends/family so as not to worry or trigger any thoughts of possible illness.
    xx

  • I’ve just clicked on your name and seen your personal history. It takes a special kind of person to share their own experience in the hope of helping others.

  • I’m not sure if anyone can see this when I am replying to you, Jane … but I just wanted to say that if anyone who is reticent about having a biopsy to rule things out, in my experience, it’s not much different to a smear.

From joining this site yesterday, I’ve seen so many ladies who worried about the pipelle biopsy which could lead to some women putting it off. Zone out and think of something else entirely, in my case it was my latest online clothes order! I’m definitely not downplaying how post menopausal ladies( I thought I was till I wasn’t) feel or for different reasons but for the majority of us it really is very swift and easy. None of us want a poking about but it’s so needed.

  • I am glad that you plucked up the courage to speak to someone. Just saying it out loud to someone who understands helps. I really think that they she phone or send out a letter before putting any results anywhere as they might understand them but we don't. I was lucky in that I had a lovely nurse who did my biopsy and she talked to me about how I wanted to find out and it was agreed that the matron of the ward would phone me. The nurse who did the biopsy was on holiday when the results came back.

I agree- sometimes it is hardest to speak to those closest as we try and protect them. I also found it was hard enough to cope with my own feelings and could not cope with the reactions of others until I knew for sure.

  • Yes- it is visible to others. And good advice. The biopsy is not pleasant but if you have a good nurse perform it and are well supported it is far better than not getting checked and things potentially getting worse. And if they try and it is too much then they can stop and refer you to have it under general anaesthetic.

  • That is kind of you to say. I think when you have been through something as traumatic as cancer then you naturally want to support others going through similar. I remember the fear.

  • I’m really hoping the neoropathy ( where’s predictive text when I need it?) eases or they can come up with a way to ease it.
Hope I can keep in touch with you because I had a full hour of Googling when I had a chance to after work yesterday and reaching out to this site and you responding stopped me going into full catastrophe mode.
You’ve gone through so much and you are incredible … so while you are supportive everyone now remember how excellent you are.
