Hello, thank goodness for this forum!

I had PMB back in Feb, which I put down to a v. stressful January (after my other half was involved in a bad accident) and missing a couple of progesterone pills. But, spotting continued so saw my GP 26/3. TVU a month later followed by a call telling me I was being referred for a hysteroscopy and not to worry. The hysteroscopy wasn't pleasant - I have a history of gynae issues and while I tried explaining this to the consultant, she decided to go ahead. My uterus is extremely stenotic, so after 20 mins of trying, 3 local anaesthetic injections into the uterus, the procedure was abandoned. I was then admitted for a hysteroscopy under GA on 22/5. When I woke in recovery, the surgeon told me she'd removed a small tumour that she wasn't happy with. She said she'd 'taken it all' away and that it been a longer surgery due to resecting the area. Not a standard hysteroscopy.
4/6 diagnosed with grade 1 cancer.
9/6 MRI and Chest X-ray.
Everything happened so quickly that now, waiting for the next call and next steps, feels like every day drags. It really messes with my head.

The CNS has told me to expect a hysterectomy within 4 weeks - so I'm trying to prepare at home and at work as best I can. We are moving (from Surrey) to Perthshire in a couple of months, so packing boxes in between times. (Though I can't lift anything after the resection - I just start bleeding if I lift anything heavy).

I run my own business - I'm normally focussed, very detail oriented and super-patient.
I'm not sure I recognise the 'current' me, she's not like the person above. Anyone else feel like that?
Thank you for reading!

  • Hi. Hopefully you will get your hysterectomy very soon and start to feel more like your usual self.it all seemed to feel better once a surgery date was arranged and you have a plan. Keep in touch, we are both very new to all this x

  • Hi

You have had a number of stressful months, so not surprised you are feeling as you are. I struggled to focus on much other stuff whilst I was going through the investigation/testing/diagnosis stage. I’m a real planner, and found it really difficult not knowing what was going on until I got the diagnosis and op date. Hopefully you will get a date for op very soon, and get back to feeling yourself.

  • Hi DHT240,

Have just put a reply to your previous post with a link you might find helpful.

It can all feel a bit like a whirlwind when you first have a diagnosis but we are here to support you.

Hopefully once you have your surgery date things will feel a bit better

In the meantime, if there is anything you need, please do ask.

    Jane

  • I am surprised that you were told to 'expect a hysterectomy within 4 weeks' which seems very quick after having a resection. In any event, surely it's your decision when to have surgery, given your current circumstances. Grade 1 cancer is generally slow-growing, so maybe you need a bit of breathing space before the next steps, which you can discuss with your team if necessary.

Whatever you decide, I hope it all goes well for you. Keeping busy is good but you need rest and relaxation too.

    Good wishes.

  • Hi there,

Sounds like you have had a few stressful weeks. Totally relate to that.

With what you are currently going through it's totally natural to be worried and less patient.

I found the waiting is the worst part.

Try and focus one day at a time, recover first.

Then focus on operation when you receive a date. Then it will feel more of a plan of action. Once I had a date, was able to concentrate on one step at a time.

    Take care

  • Thank you!

I just had a call from the hospital. I now have an appointment with a gynaecology oncology consultant on Friday.

You have a date for surgery? I hope you're well now.

  • That's fantastic news!

You can focus now you have a date.

Yes op went well, and now recovering and taking it one day at a time both physically and emotionally Heartpulse

Sending you lots of positivity to you.

  • Thank you  Pray tone1
I'm glad to hear your op went well and that you're on the road to recovery.

  • Good to hear that you are being seen on Friday. You might find things move quite quickly once you have seen the consultant.

  • Hello, just a quick update and (yet) another question from me.

I've been referred to a cancer hospital as my local hospital trust doesn't offer the type of surgery that I need. I know from the new hospital that I'll be having a complex robotic hysterectomy with sentinel node analysis. I've read all I can about it, but haven't met the surgeon(s) yet.

I had my pre-op yesterday at the 'new' hospital where I'll have the surgery and I have a provisional date for the op - 7th July. The nurse yesterday advised me to compile a list of questions for the surgeon and that I'll meet them at their clinic next week (no appointment yet).

But, I've read sooooo much, inhaled every article and forum post, leaflet or document I could find - that I now seem incapable of asking the relevant questions. I feel like a complete idiot - I've read so much, but know so little.

Does anyone have a go to resource / list of the type of questions I should be asking?

Apologies, but having gone cold turkey with HRT the brain fog is real!

    Thank you all xx
