Good afternoon. I am new to this forum. Interested in taking HRT for early surgical menopause. I'm 36 years old. No kids. 11 years of attempts are unsuccessful. In January, I had a hysteroscopy and removed a polyp in my uterus. Histology revealed G2 endometrial adenocarcinoma. It was decided to perform a lower-middle laparotomy and extirpation of the uterus with appendages. The operation was on February 8th. Diagnosis - adenocarcinoma G2 of the body of the uterus 1a st. T1aN0M0. Hysteroscopy after surgery - atypical hyperplasia of the uterine body, chronic salpingitis, paratubal cysts, ovaries - serous and follicular cysts, in one of the ovaries - endometriosis with atypical hyperplasia. She was discharged from the hospital on February 18. The saddest thing is that on February 24, a war broke out in our country. I am from Ukraine, South of the country. And our region was occupied in the first days. I had to bandage myself at the seam and bandage my legs, while hiding in the basement. In April, I managed to get to my doctor for a checkup. Everything went well. The doctor forbade taking any hormones. Soon in May, my husband and I left for Germany and are still here under temporary shelter. In June, I was able to get an appointment with a gynecologist with my diagnosis. The gynecologist did an ultrasound, examined me and prescribed estrogen gel, because all these months I had terrible menopausal symptoms. Inspection every 3 months. Only now I was able to exhale a little and begin to study this issue about hormones, since my doctor was against it, but it was prescribed here. I am always in doubt, am I doing the right thing by applying the gel? I have been studying this forum for several days and realized that closer to the age of 51 you can no longer take HRT. But if the early menopause is like mine, then it is dangerous for the heart and bones. Although there are risks despite the early stage of cancer. I do not have the opportunity to go to my doctor and I would be happy to return home and have everything as before. In Germany we live in a small town where I was able to go to a gynecologist who speaks some English and helped me. I have to trust him at this stage. Understand correctly - ignorance of the language and there is absolutely no strength to study it now. But now I began to have doubts. I really ask for help, who has experience in taking HRT for early surgical menopause for uterine cancer, please share. Or the experience of early menopause with uterine cancer without hormones and whether problems appeared in the future. I will be very grateful. I understand that I have to make the decision myself. Now, when using estrogen gel, I feel good, except for the increased sensitivity of the breasts. But there is always a fear in my head about the recurrence of cancer in the first 5 years. Thank you for your attention. Sorry for the long text and possibly with errors.

  • Hallo lucky369i, I would like to warmly welcome you to the group. I can’t help you with your question as it’s outside of my experience, but hopefully someone else will be along soon to assist you. I’m so glad you and your husband were able to find refuge in Germany and are safe, but I also feel deeply for you both, and your country, for what has happened and is happening there. Bless you and hoping you get some assistance with your question.

  • Hi

im glad you and your husband are safe now, I can’t even begin to imagine what you have been through. I popped on here with the intention of writing an update post on my particular experience with HRT, I know it’s a frequently asked question, and found your post. I had surgery for grade 1 stage 1a endometrial cancer in 2017 when I had just turned 36. My surgeon discouraged me from having HRT initially but as I developed symptoms they thought the benefits to my quality of life might outweigh the risks in my particular case. I didn’t take anything for menopause for the first two years then I took antidepressants as an alternative to HRT for a while and I finally started on oestrogen patches in October last year and stopped the antidepressants which weren’t great but did the job I needed them to at the time. I started on 25mg then worked up to 50mg and I felt amazing until this summer when I took a bit of a dip, I spoke to my menopause doctor who said the dip in mood is usual after 6/9 months (which was a relief to hear) so now I’m up to 75mg and the menopause consultant said for my age he would expect me to need 100mg, I also had a check up with my surgeon before that appointment which helped reassure to make the decision to up my dose and stick with it. I also asked the menopause doctor about testosterone and he was supportive of me trying that if I feel like I need it once I fix my oestrogen levels.

I hope this helps a bit, I know how stressful it is trying to make these decisions with the limited evidence available.

    lots of love x

  • Thank you very much for your experience. It was very important for me to hear your answer, because I saw your history of searching for an answer on the forum, and we also have the same age during the operation. I am glad to hear that this method is now helping you and many doctors and consultants have confirmed the benefit. I am also pleasantly surprised that the gel can also affect mood. I will wait for the effect. Many thanks for the help.
