Hi another one recently diagnosed with Endometrial Cancer, think grade 2 , Gyny Oncologist confirmed on 30 /3/22 following TV scan and biopsy after GP referral following a bleed and passing a lump (polyp?) at the end of Feb.

Had MRI, and last Friday saw another Gyny Doc/surgeon confirmed and advised hysterectomy Inc tubes/ovaries - hopefully laparoscopic but scan showed some adhesions so may need to be open abdominal  surgery - which I'm really hoping won't be the case as I'm very active and sporty and want to get back to an active life . I'm now waiting for pre-op appointment with surgery in 4-6 weeks.

In the meantime I'm working at getting as fit as I can for surgery and trying to stay positive amid the uncertainty.

Can't fault our wonderful NHS, everything happening really quickly , I'm lucky my GP, who I've only spoken to on the phone a couple of times referred immediately and I live near to a large specialist hospital in North West England

Any words of advice, experience encouragement welcome !

  • Hi and a warm welcome to our group of lovely ladies ready to offer advice and support on what we call the roller-coaster ride. If you've any questions fire away, one of us should be able to answer, between us we've gained a lot of knowledge.

I agree our NHS are wonderful and things happen really quickly now things are pretty well back to normal. I was diagnosed at the start of the pandemic and everything seemed a bit hit and miss, more streamlined now!

It’s always helpful to others if you write a little something (or a lot) about yourself and how you came to find yourself here. Why not take a few moments to update your profile. It's always helpful for us to read if we want to ask you questions and you also won't end up repeating yourself. You can enter it into your profile (click on your username and select “Profile”) . It might also be a good idea to download this booklet Understanding Womb (Endometrial) Cancer. I found it invaluable on my journey.

  • Hi JayB. I am also active and sporty before and after surgery. I had womb cancer in 2017 aged 56 and had a TLH and BSO operation. I was told not to do sports for several weeks after the operation, I think it was about 3 months, then I started again with running. I was surprised how much the surgery had affected me - I was very weak and feeble and could only run for a few minutes at first, just down the road, rest, and back again. However, eventually I got my fitness back. During my recovery I saw a physiotherapist (which I had to pay for, privately) as I was concerned about damaging my newly re-arranged innards. It was a long slow road but 19 months after surgery I ran a half-marathon again. I am now running, cycling and hiking again. I am not quite as fast or as strong as I was and am a little more cautious. I found it very difficult to get any information about doing sports after hysterectomy, which is why I consulted a physio. My sporting chums were very encouraging and supportive in the early days however I think now they have all forgotten what I've been through, and they don't make any allowances any more! So you get no rewards for hard work ha ha. Good luck. LR.
