Hi another one recently diagnosed with Endometrial Cancer, think grade 2 , Gyny Oncologist confirmed on 30 /3/22 following TV scan and biopsy after GP referral following a bleed and passing a lump (polyp?) at the end of Feb.
Had MRI, and last Friday saw another Gyny Doc/surgeon confirmed and advised hysterectomy Inc tubes/ovaries - hopefully laparoscopic but scan showed some adhesions so may need to be open abdominal surgery - which I'm really hoping won't be the case as I'm very active and sporty and want to get back to an active life . I'm now waiting for pre-op appointment with surgery in 4-6 weeks.
In the meantime I'm working at getting as fit as I can for surgery and trying to stay positive amid the uncertainty.
Can't fault our wonderful NHS, everything happening really quickly , I'm lucky my GP, who I've only spoken to on the phone a couple of times referred immediately and I live near to a large specialist hospital in North West England
Any words of advice, experience encouragement welcome !
Hi Jay. Sorry to hear you have joined our special club but I’m pleased to offer you a warm welcome. Don’t worry about any questions you need answering as there is always someone around to help and offer encouragement. I am a bit further down the line than you, I’ve got my op on Thursday. I can’t wait to get rid of this thing inside me and get on with my life. Like you I think I’m quite fit for a 75 year old and I have tried to keep walking every day. I’ve been walking down by the coast for an hour this afternoon, blown the cobwebs away.
The worst part is the waiting but try and stay positive and keep active. The lovely ladies on here have been on the journey that we’re on now and will be more than pleased to offer ‘good’ advice, encouragement and positive thoughts to help you through this awful time. Keep strong and be kind to yourself.
Sending a big hug to you and hopefully you won’t be waiting too long.
best wishes. Maureen x
Hallo JayB, welcome to the group and to the roller coaster ride! Well done for how you’ve got through this so far as even just trying to process it all and find a way forward, combined with all the waiting, takes a lot out of us. I was diagnosed in November, had my hysterectomy in January, and am just over half way through my radiotherapy. I did a hysterectomy diary thread - I’ll grab the link and post it for you. There’s also a what to pack thread that MrsBJH started - will dig out the link for that too. Any questions at all - just fire away!

Hi JayB sorry to hear of your diagnosis, if you don’t mind me asking where about in the North West are you? I only ask as I am in Liverpool and had my surgery in Liverpool Women’s hospital and I have had my chemotherapy through Clatterbridge at the Lilac centre and they have all been amazing, so friendly and helpful and made this whole process a lot easier
Thank you !
That was really reassuring to read, how are you doing now ?
I have made a good recovery from my hysterectomy - I’m still careful though about lifting anything heavier than bags of shopping because I’m aware that healing inside can take a lot longer plus I want to protect myself against future pelvic floor/prolapse issues. I’d had a c section with my first child so wasn’t a stranger to abdominal surgery. I was a probable grade 1 stage 1A pre op, but restaged to stage 2 post histology hence the radiotherapy to nuke any odd rogue cells that there might be in my lymph system. I’ve had 15 sessions out of 25 external RT, and will also have 2 brachytherapy (internal). End treatment date is 19/5. Hope you hear soon!
Thanks , it's Manchester, St.Mary's (Gyne and Mat hospital) . They also work with The Christie where any additional treatment would take place if needed. I'm very grateful as they are both excellent hospitals and the experience so far has been excellent, everyone very kind and helpful.
