Hi everyone, hope you are all doing well, I've got my big meeting next Thursday, the one with my MRI and CT scan results and my treatment plan. Can anyone tell me roughly how long it lasts, I know they'll differ for everyone but I need to get someone to petsit my rescue girl Luna so even just a ball park figure, thanks
Hi Annousks
Most of my meetings took around an hour but often I had to wait around whilst there. With nurse led clinics I didn't often wait more than 30 mins. With consultant led clinics it could be well over an hour.
My main appointment, where they discussed results and treatment- I was at the hospital for most of the day. This was because I had to wait ages for the consultant and then after that appointment I was sent straight away for pre op checks and these took around 2/3 hours. The checks were done in different places in the hospital and there was waiting around at each. From memory it was around 11 ish when I arrived and around 4ish when I could leave.
So it was waiting for the consultant. In with the consultant. Follow up counselling/support from the nurse. Basic obs. Then to different parts of hospital. BMI, bloods. ECG, MRSA swabs. blood pressure etc
I would suggest giving them a call and getting a rough idea and then you can make sure Luna is covered.
Good Luck
Jane
I waited for 10 mins then was in with my consultant for about 10 mins
Mine was similar to start with….in quite quickly, 5 mins with surgeon, but they then said they had a cancellation for op on the Monday morning, this was Friday and could I go back that afternoon for pre op, which took about 3 hours extra in the afternoon! Think quite rare though for that to happen!
Hi Annousks, at that appointment I saw my consultant, and he said that my predicted stage was 1a, and that the recommended treatment would be a hysterectomy, which he’d hope would be laparoscopic. I asked how long my stay would be and he said likely just overnight, I asked what happened after that, and he said my uterus would be sent off to the lab for histology, and then I’d have a post op appointment to get the results and generally check on how I was recovering results. There wasn’t really much else to say so that’s why it only took about 10 mins. Until that appointment I hadn’t told my adult children that I had cancer, only that I was having some gynae investigations, as I wanted to know the predicted grade first. I knew I’d now need to tell them so I asked if I could see my CNS immediately afterwards and have a chat with her, as I was feeling apprehensive, and that happened, so I chose to stay longer but that wasn’t down to the consultant.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
