Waiting for biopsy results

Hello everyone, hope you are all okay! I had a hysteroscopy performed 3 weeks ago this Friday just gone.   i had some polyps removed and some biopsies of my womb lining, At the time I was told it will be 3 to 6 weeks before results are back. I just wondered if anyone else had this and how long it took for results to get to you? I know it's only just gone 3 weeks but it feels like forever! Is it a good sign if they take longer or does it not make a difference? Thank you Slight smile

  • Hi Annm46

    The waiting is hard.

My biopsy results came back within a week.

My post op results took 3 1/2 weeks.

There seems to be a variation between hospitals and it can just depend how busy the lab is. In my experience the time taken for the results to come back does not have any baring on whether it is good news or not so good news.

We do have the Support Line available from 8am-8pm everyday if it would help to chat things through.

I hope you do not have to wait too much longer.

    Jane

  • Thank you sp much for your reply, i was actually doing okay until it hit 3 weeks now it's all i can think about, o feel like im checking my nhs app every 5 mins!

Hope you are doing okay now Slight smile

  • Sorry you are going through all this. I get my results tomorrow, four weeks after my biopsy was taken but they requested an MRI at the same time which was done two weeks ago. They did warn me that I wouldn’t be called in until both sets of results had come back and there would be an MDT meeting first. It is such a stressful time. I hope all is ok and you aren’t waiting too much longer. xx

  • You could contact your GP and see if anything has come back there. My results and medical notes from appointments were always sent electronically to my GP and sometimes it could be around a week before they came to me.

How did you arrange to be told? Sometimes it can be quicker to be told by phone (I arranged this myself) rather than wait for a face to face appointment or letter.

  • I had a polyp biopsy - was told 2 weeks, which became 3 weeks in the follow up letter. After 3 weeks I rang up, had to leave a message on a number supposedly answered 24/7  and after  initially being ignored finally discovered that a letter had been dictated a week earlier but had not been sent either to me or my gp.

So I recommend phoning after 3 weeks. Timing of response is just based on how busy the lab is.
