  • Hi Catyw

    Welcome to the Womb group.

I am sorry to hear of your breast cancer last year.

You have done the right thing in getting checked our when experiencing issues with constipation.

Tamoxifen can sometimes cause endometrial thickening as a side effect and it is normal to be fast tracked for a hysteroscopy and biopsy in these circumstances. They need to take a closer look at the endometrium to see if there is anything that could be causing your symptoms eg; polyps/fibroids etc and also to take a few samples to rule out any cancer being present.

A Ca125 test is routinely done and a slightly high one can be for many different reasons. eg; recent infection. As your is slightly higher then this simply means it is best to investigate further. A Ca125 is a blood marker that is useful when investigating gynaecological issues. By itself it does not rule out or diagnose anything. It tends to be used more often during investigations for ovarian cancer but for me it was routinely checked throughout my treatments.

It sounds to me that what is happening is routine at the moment and they are just having a closer look at things to make sure that the thickening is potentially due to the tamoxifen treatment rather than anything else. Hyperplasia (endometrial thickening) can happen for several reasons and is of different types- some are more concerning than others. Some types of hyperplasia need treatment whereas other can just be left and monitored.

I hope that your hysteroscopy/biopsy can be done quickly so you can get the answers you need.

    Jane
