Hello,
New here and been looking through some posts as I've been having some irregular periods the past 6 months. Heavier with clots and missed ones. The gp fast tracked me for a scan which I had last Tuesday. A 7mm polyp was found with no definite feeder vessel seen. ET messaged at 11.2mm (scan was done near middle oh my cycle) I've been fast tracked to gyne which is today. The gp said they might want to do a biopsy. It's all gone so fast and my referral letter said suspected cancer which has freaked me out. My anxiety is so bad, I can't sleep or eat so I feel weak all the time. I just wondered if anyone has been through similar and is it going to be bad news? How common are polyps that are none cancerous? I just keep thinking the worse and I'm petrified.
Thank you x
Hi
I have just replied to your other post.
Where a polyp or any hyperplasia (endometrial thickened) is seen on a scan it is routine to be put on the urgent cancer referral process. It does not mean that you have cancer, it means that the symptoms you have, in some people could be a sign of cancer and that it needs to be ruled out. They always try and rule out any potentially more serious cause first.
A biopsy is the only thing that can confirm for sure whether or not any cancer is present but again it is to rule it out at this stage. Even the consultant at this stage can not say for sure.
I know it is scary but it is important to know one way or another what is going on. Once you know for sure then treatment can be discussed.
If the worst does happen then most endometrial cancers, when caught at an early stage are very treatable cancers. If it turns out to be a benign polyp and it isn't causing any issues then it may well not need treatment.
Good Luck for your appointment and I hope any results come back quickly. In the meantime we are here if you need us.
Jane

I remember being really scared but once there was well looked after.
Booked in for Thursday for a camera and biopsy.
That's good- not long to wait
