Has anyone been advised regarding winter vaccinations? ie. Best time to have them post chemotherapy.

  • I finished my chemo on 28th May, last day for spring vaccine was I think 16th of June, which is the day I had it. My consultant told me to try to have it as late as possible, so I had it just under 3 weeks post last chemo.

  • I’m about to have both flu and Covid and I’m midway through my chemo treatment.

  • Thanks for responding.  I'm anxious to get them done. Can I just ask who advised you.

  • Sorry for the delay replying, I spoke to my oncologist at the hospital.  She said the timing was important and to schedule the injection as close as possible to treatment day.  I have my treatment on a Friday so I have the flu jab on Wednesday and Covid on Thursday the following week.  Double check with your team if you’re concerned.

  • Thanks for the response.  It's all rather conflicting.  Managed eventually to get advice from consultant who told me to wait for 1 month after last chemotherapy.

Confusing! In fact I'm finding quite a bit of difference in advice generally.  I wonder whether different trusts have different views.

Thanks again. Get sick of it all. Yearning for some normality in my life!

    Take care. Sassy.

  • Yes things do seem to vary. I think my consultant would have preferred me to wait a little longer, if it wasn’t for fact the spring boosters were coming to an end he thought better to have the jab than not.  Saying that I was fine with the jab, just the normal sore arm for a couple of days.

how far are you through chemo?  Yep totally understand the yearning for normality, it’s a long old journey, and wish you all the best

  • I am four cycles into six Carboplatin and Paclitaxel and generally well, with thankfully no real side effects other than a hospital admission for treatment of an abscess which set back my treatment by six weeks. I was advised to have my vaccines as close to my next treatment as possible, so have booked that. On a positive note, my chemotherapy is working and, after only two sessions, my endometrial cancer (Stage 4), and the spread to my abdominal wall have reduced. I could not have surgery because of the spread, so obviously I’m feeling more hopeful and, above all, well. Keep going everyone xx
