I was diagnosed about a month ago with level 1a cancer, I am working full time and I just don't know how to feel about it all. I get very tired very easily but I just cannot give up working due to money worries. I feel trapped

  • You are protected in law if you have to take time off for treatment or if you are unwell. Do you have a manager you can confide in? Cancer is a recognised disability. Your workplace should be working with you, potentially even getting an occupational health assessment and making reasonable adjustments to help you.
Please don’t try and keep going without getting the support you deserve and are entitled to.
Sorry it’s so overwhelming but you don’t have to struggle on and try to be superwoman x

  • I am a home carer and am only entitled to ssp which I cannot survive off :( xx

  • Perhaps you might contact CAB for a benefits check, to see if there is anything else you are entitled to? Also, Nancy66 is right, you are protected legally and if you need to cut your hours, this should be covered. I know it's complex, but try to take this a stage at a time. I make lists in order to focus on things without jumping to the next stage to help. Do you have people you can lean on emotionally at this time?

  • Hi carer79

I am sorry to hear of your diagnosis of womb cancer.

If you give the Support Line a call (8am-8pm daily) one of the advisors can talk you through your rights around work, time off and see whether you are entitled to any additional money. There may well be some benefits you are entitled to but these would depend on your personal circumstances.

I went down to SSP from diagnosis and it is not enough to live on. Give them a call, you need to be focussed on your health at the moment, not worrying about finances.

    Jane
