Hi ladies, I'm hoping you can offer me some advice
So, a little background first I'm 37 years old. Last October/ November I went to my doctors due to very heavily bleeding that's last month's on end. Scan showed thickened endometrium of 17mm. In December had biopsy and polyp removed through hysterscopy under local. The results came back as hyperplasia- no sign of atypical/ cancer which was amazing. As part of the follow up I had a repeat scan in April which found the endomterium to be thicker still ( 18.5mm) and multiple polyps seen. I had another hystercopy booked in for today and the consultant said it was thicker than the scan suggested. She removed 2 small polyps but the other polyps she could see on the scan appear to be the hyperplasia. She said it appears to be so thick it has bunched in places and formed clumps. She inserted the coil today and said she hopes it will help ease symptoms and the thickness. She said she sent off lots of samples for biopsy but isn't concerned due to the last one being 'simple hyperplasia'. She said she is discharging me unless biopsy results suggested a follow up is necessary. I asked do I need follow up scans she said if symptoms persist but it has me worried now.
Thanks for reading ️
Hello MrsHutch24
It sounds like the consultant is being really thorough and that is a good thing. I would find it reassuring that although there is significant hyperplasia- the increase has been minimal. Also it is reassuring that your previous biopsy showed no signs of atypical hyperplasia or cancer.
Although it is only the biopsy results that will show whether there is any cause for concern, I would be guided by the consultants feeling and experience. The coil should hopefully help ease your symptoms in the meantime.
For a simple hyperplasia no treatment may be necessary other than perhaps some monitoring. So like she is saying- if symptoms persist then a repeat scan/test may be wise.
If there is any atypical hyperplasia treatment may be needed as there is a chance in some ladies that in time a cancer could develop. So in this case I would expect a follow up to discuss whether treatment would be advisable or whether continued monitoring is needed.
Polyps tend to be removed for testing and hopefully these will come back clear for you.
Although hyperplasia, polyps and endometrial cancer can occur at any age- most cases on here of ladies who have had a cancer diagnosis tend to be post menopausal.
So one while I understand it is tough to undergo the testing and to wait for results, I would feel somewhat reassured by the consultants feeling.
Good Luck and I hope you do not have to wait too long. In the meantime do give the Support Line a call if you need to talk it through.
Jane
