Hello, hope everybody is ok? had my 3rd infusion of Keytruda today, so far ok.  But I have lost weight again - about 2 kgs - in the 3 weeks period.  The nurse said I should eat more cream cakes, great - feel guild free now. The Lenvatinib definitely makes me more tired, have 1 - 2 naps during the day.

So that's my news, not much I am afraid, for now just have to carry on with the treatment. I hope your treatments are  not causing any major issues.

Keep well,

regards

Hanna

  • Hello Hanna (

I am Brian one of the Community Champions here on the Community. I have just noticed your post has gone unanswered. I can't answer it myself as I have a different cancer, however by me replying it will be "bumped up" to the top of the page and I hope seen and replied to by other members of the Womb cancer group.

I must say none of the nurses I have encountered with Prostate Cancer have asked me to eat more  - and I love cream cakes!! - It's always you need to lose weight!! Joy.

On a serious note - I wish you well with your treatment.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi

It might be useful to add your post also to the specific immunotherapy support thread here in case others are specifically following the posts there

In my experience (only of chemo) the team like you to keep your weight stable as the dosage is based on weight, so adding calories in what you eat can be beneficial if you’re losing. I hope your future cycles continue to go smoothly.

  • thanks Sarah, before all this I was very careful what I ate, no processed rubbish, every day I  cooked for us dinner from scratch with loads of vegies, fresh meat or fish, etc. I have already bough trifles and cream cake but will investigate other fattening foods. The problem is that I don't feel hungry...

  • I know it can seem counter intuitive to eat what we perceive as non healthy food. But sometimes we need extra calories we wouldn’t normally consider eating-like adding cream, and butter to meals so it’s sneaking them into things like mashed potatoes, adding extra grated cheese, making a milkshake and adding ice cream before blending it up. These are easy ways to get extra calories into “regular” food.

I remember finding it difficult going through radiotherapy and being told to reduce fruit and veg to a minimum, and eat white bread instead of seeded wholemeal which would have been my normal choice. It sounded crazy, but it was only for a short time, so I did it.

Then, after I had surgery I found it very difficult to eat and was constantly vomiting, so rapidly lost 50lbs (you can tell I haven’t gone metric yet!) and trying to get any nourishment was really hard, but I could keep down mashed potatoes with lots of real butter, so that kept me going in small portions eaten slowly. At least it was something. I didn’t feel hungry at all so had to force myself to have anything at all, so I can understand it’s difficult. Different cancer, but the same issues you’re facing.

Have you got access to a dietician at your hospital to get advice at all? Maybe check with your CNS if you could see one-you don’t want to be losing weight on a regular basis while you’re going through treatment-you need to try and keep your strength up.

  • Thank you Sarah for sharing your experience, Yes I will have to skip healthy eating for a while. Before the treatment i had a good appetite, was eating a lot of fruit but now it is down to just a banana a day and that's at a push. I have bought clotted cream and tomorrow will get more trifles and cream cakes! I haven't been sick as yet but that' will come no doubt. I didn't know that you have to restrict fruit and veg when on radiotherapy.

    Will be in touch,

hope you  are doing ok now?

    Regards

    Hanna

  • I am doing fine, thank you. I’ve not long passed the 5 year anniversary of my total pelvic exenteration surgery, so am considered by my surgeon to be cured. I’m back to eating lots of fruit now! I missed that during radiotherapy but I had bad side effects (bowel) if I did.
