Good morning,
I had robotic surgery 5 days ago and I'm doing ok, managing a small walk every day and getting around the house.
I am waiting to find out what treatment I will be having, i think they said i will get an appointment with oncology in around 4 weeks when they get the results back from the lymph nodes tests. I was still a bit groggy when they spoke to me so I can't quite remember what they said. Just wondered what happened for others and if I will also have a follow up with gynae surgeon?
I had already started slimming world before my op and lost a stone and will continue this but I'm thinking about exercise. Is there a particular type of exercise or exercise programme that people have found beneficial post op as i would like to build some strength up before treatment but not sure where to start
Thanks
Hi Millymollymandy2025, well done for having had your op and going for a walk every day. Walking is the best exercise and, if you feel comfortable, I’d encourage you to consider increasing it to twice per day, and to maybe gradually increase the length of the walk. Did you get a leaflet from your hospital re pelvic floor exercises? Gentle ones of those are important. I personally wouldn’t have started any extra exercise programme without checking with my CNS or consultant.
Regarding post op appointments, I was fortunate in that I had a pre-booked appointment to get my histology results just two weeks afterwards. At that appointment I was told that my grade had stayed at 1, but that my stage had changed from a 1a to a 2 as cells had been found on my cervix. I was given a brief summary of the suggested treatment (radio and brachy) but was also told that I’d have another appointment with an oncologist to talk about it in detail, and where I could ask questions. That happened a week or so later.
Hello MillyMollyMandy2025
Welcome to the Womb group. I am glad that you are doing ok after your surgery.
My post op results came back at around 3 1/2 weeks. I was phoned by the surgeon who did my op. The results indicated a need for chemotherapy and radiotherapy. I was not seen again by the surgeon.
About 5 weeks post op I had an appointment through to go in to see the chemotherapy consultant. This was to discuss the next steps in my treatment. Once chemo was done I had a similar appointment with the radiotherapy consultant.
There can be differences between hospitals and a lot will depend on what your results are and whether further treatment is needed or not. I would expect some sort of follow up at around 6 weeks.
Well done for losing a stone already. I found walking to be the best exercise and just built up the time and frequency. I lost a fair amount of weight and am generally healthier and all I did was to walk regularly and eat more healthily. I had some side effects from my radiotherapy that meant monitoring my diet so am eating more mindfully. Cutting out snacking and a lot of processed foods has helped.
I find the walking also helps mentally.
I wish you well with your continued recovery and hope you do not have to wait too long for your results. In the meantime we are here if you need us.
Jane
Thank you that's really helpful. I didn't get a leaflet about pelvic floor exercises but I'll have a look online, hadn't thought about that at all. I'm going to start increasing walks from tomorrow
Thanks Jane, cabin fever has definately started to set in today so completely agree about the mental health. Thank you for sharing your treatment plan, it's really helpful to read about others experience. I know there will be some treatment so I guess I just need to wait to hear the plan
Millymollymandy, make sure you look for pelvic floor exercises after hysterectomy, not just pelvic floor exercises. As it’s important not to overdo them. Or you could ask your CNS.
This is a link to some NHS info
The walking thing was a great help to me too. I live in town near a bus route so I was able to increase my distance by incorporating a sit down at a bus stop. (They're very uncomfortable seats). My CNS reminded me however far I walked I still needed to get home again! It's a great time of year to be able to get out for however short a walk. I feel for those ladies who had to do it in the winter.
Would not of thought of that, thank you
Great idea, thank you, I will plan my route around bus stops and benches. I thought the same about the weather, it definitely helps with the walking
Hi I’m nearly 7 weeks post my robotic surgery.
I started doing one walk a day and then built up to two and gradually built up the distance. I would say I’m back to my pre op physical ability now with regards to walking. Sometimes I get a twinge but I always have a cuppa and a sit down when I get home. Also I was lucky and my husband came with me for the first few weeks.
I have found it’s helped my mental health and I now listen to music as I walk it’s very therapeutic.
I was called back 3 weeks post op to see my surgeon and the CNS with my results and I was lucky I didn’t need any further treatment.
i would say eat healthily where you can although I had a few treats lol
i have also used a journal during my tine since I was diagnosed I think it’s helped me get my thoughts out without burdening others,
good luck with your journey xx
