Edit:  fyi i was rejected for hrt due to my cancer being hormone positive and the fact i sustained a dvt in the accident.  But I wasn't necessarily after hrt.  Being referred for dexascan and bloods taken to ascertain situation before any further action.  Very sympathetic of my situation.

Just wondering if anyone has continued to use or started on HRT after treatment.  Or whether it was a no no from person decision and /or medic recommendation.

Because of multiple fractures in car accident prior to diagnosis and am concerned about osteoporosis.

Because of concerns I have been referred to a menopausal specialist next week.

Thanks all

  • I had a DEXA scan after treatment (2022), and, following a diagnosis of osteopenia, am taking calcium daily and being retested every 18 months or so to check for improvements - which there was at the last scan.

  • Thank you.   Trying to understand all options

  • Oh that’s useful to know..thanks

  • Hi FJ71

I was told that it was not recommended however it can depend partly on whether the post op pathology indicates a hormone positive cancer. Mine was ER and PR positive. So any hormone treatment could potentially raise the risk of the cancer recurring. However there can be a lower risk in some types of topical HRT. So your referral to the menopause expert is a good plan so it can be looked at in detail. Sometimes, I was told it was a risk vs benefit decision.

I discussed taking calcium/vitamin D to help protect my bones with my CNS and this was agreed as a good thing to do.

  • Thank you.  I have no idea if mine was hormone positive or not.  I rang my cns who told me some definitely can; some definitely not but I'm in the middle! I may ring to see if I can get that precise information

  • Mine is listed on all my appointment letters- something like Stage, grade and then ER/PR positive. Its the hormone positive ones that could be more affected by HRT

  • I'll check thank you

  • It's not mentioned on my letters.  I assume the menopause clinic will have the information

  • Do you have NHS app? Maybe on there. But the clinic should be able to access your records. I wonder if mine was on there because mine was positive- perhaps they don't put on if negative. Its not something I really know about. Mine was on the post op sheet and on every letter I have had with an appointment on. Might be different with different hospitals

  • Just found it in a letter ER positive.  Guessing I'm in the middle because it was grade 1
