How soon after did anyone go out as a passenger in a car
Hubby asked if I wanted to go for short car ride but too nervous really although I am walking every day up to 6 mins outside
now going to do it twice today morning and afternoon if I can
I'm only 11 days since my robotic hysterectomy and getting alot of twinges down below where I guess it's healing and the nerves
Hi Mollysue
As far as I'm aware straightaway - if you feel up to it. I had an hour long journey when I left hospital so I didn't have much choice
I had a cushion to sit on and one in front of my tummy to help cushion me.
Getting out and about is good and helps boost your recovery. It's important to listen to your body and try things and see how you feel. As you know we can't drive ourselves for 6 weeks.
All the best xx
Hi Mollysue, I think I went in the car with my son to the supermarket about 10 days after my surgery, I just walked around holding the trolley ( not pushing). About 2 weeks after surgery I went on the community bus ( my husband is the volunteer driver), my sister's birthday was coming up so I wanted to get a gift, I spent a couple of hours wandering round the shops with a coffee break. I felt fine as I'd been walking short distances regularly. It was probably about 5 weeks before I drove myself.
Hi mollysue, honestly you can be as mobile as you want to be! Twinges are normal, and may actually improve with more movement. And getting out will do you both good - your husband probably would love a little outing with you. For me, here’s my trips out in the car post op ( I kept a diary): day 6 Dave and I went out in the car for lunch at a local pub, day 8 we drove to the forest to walk our dog (off lead), day 9 we went to church, day 11 we went to the supermarket and day 12 he took me to the hairdresser’s. You may feel a bit fragile, but you’re not as fragile as you feel and getting out and about will improve your mental health and help you back to “normality”. It would hopefully also take your mind off your anxieties about your results, and give you a break from fretting! I started getting in and out of my car in our driveway about 7 days post surgery, not to drive anywhere but to start the engine, try the pedals, and to move forward and back after 2-3 days. It was therapeutic for me to feel like I was moving forward towards driving again. I was determined not to be a victim and to want my husband’s life to return to normal too as well as my own.
Hi Mollysue
I had to go in a car back from the hospital and was about 45 mins. I would think it would be fine as long as you feel comfortable. Maybe a cushion on your tummy where the seatbelt goes. perhaps a cushion on the seat.
Jane
Thankyou marmite so much I think I need to push myself a bit more
I desperately need my hair done ! Did you find it ok sitting in chair
Yes I was fine in the hairdresser’s chair and it made me feel a whole lot better getting my hair cut. When you go for your walks, try and make sure you’re standing up straight as that will help strengthen the muscles etc that hold everything in place. The temptation can be to stoop a bit but that isn’t helpful. You can also try and gently hold your tummy muscles in.
