Should I feel different UPDATE

I'm having tests etc but I'm thinking surely I would feel different if I had cancer.

My mind is just trying to work out if I should know my own body well enough.

UPDATE: I have received the results of my smear tesr today which is ok, I'm thinking surely this means the chances of me having womb cancer or any other are minimal now.

I really need to get Tuesday out of the way, my head is all over the place.

  • Hi NJH75, I didn’t feel like I had cancer either before or after diagnosis. My only symptom was a very slight pink tinge on the paper when I wiped after a wee, and never looked or felt unwell. (I’m three years post hysterectomy now)

  • Hi NJH75

    Welcome to the Womb group.

I was diagnosed after a heavy bleed. Prior to that I felt fine and was not aware of anything wrong with my body. I was tired but had a busy job and had had covid badly a couple of months earlier. I had no gynae symptoms.

I see that you have had some bleeding and that your endometrium is thicker than would be normal so this is a good reason to have things checked out. it does not mean that there is definitely something serious going on but cancer does need to be ruled out- even if you are feeling well in your self.

I hope that your testing can be completed quickly and that you can get some reassurance soon.

The consultant that I saw in hospital after my bleed said that 9/10 ladies with post menopausal bleeding would turn out to be fine but 1/10 would need treatment for womb cancer. She also said at an early stage it was a very treatable cancer.

    Good Luck

  • I felt fine too. I’d had a lot of bleeding for months but otherwise was well.
I knew deep down something wasn’t right.

  • NJH75, re the smear test, mine were all clear too - JFYI endometrial cancer isn’t picked up on a smear test, as it’s about the inside of the uterus, not the underside of the cervix.

  • Thank you x

  • Hi NJH75

I am pleased to hear that your smear test has come back ok. However the cervical screening looks for HPV virus and if it is present then further screening is needed. Because only the lower part of the cervix is screened the inside of the womb (endometrium ) is not checked. The endometrium can only be confirmed as clear of cancer by a biopsy.

So its good that your cervix has been screened but you still need the other checks for your womb. Not long to go till Tuesday now.
