Hi,
My mum was diagnosed with Serous Carcinoma in September. Full hysterectomy and lymph node removal. Preventive chemotherapy was recommended. As well as radiotherapy. My mum opted for the cold cap treatment. Her first chemo session was 3 weeks ago. She’s due her next one on Monday.
Today for the first time she’s noticed shedding. Just wondered if anyone else opted for the cold cap. If so what were you’re experiences?
Thanks
Cleo
Hi Cleo
This blog is my experience.
Please let Mum know that it is normal to have some shedding from around 14 days and it is not a sign that the cooling cap is not working. I had shedding with each cycle but also experienced some regrowth during chemo.
I remember it as being a process, yes there was shedding but I did keep a lot of hair. And regrowth was thick and fast. I lost all body hair from around 14 days and undoubtedly the hair on my head would also have gone at around the same point. Try to get Mum to focus on the hair that remains on her head rather than what she has lost.
if I had lost more hair, I would have kept going, I do believe it protects the hair follicles and encourages regrowth.
If Mum has any questions please do ask.
Jane

Thanks Jane. Mum has kept her body hair. But just since Friday the shedding has started. But as I said that’s took almost 3 weeks. Did the shedding worsen after each chemo treatment?
I had some shedding with each treatment at around 14 days post chemo. It wasn't a worse shed, just another shed. The first one I noticed more, but I'm not sure whether that was a bit psychological as it was the first shed so I was perhaps more aware of it.
Not everyone will shed at the same time. It can also depend on how effective the cooling cap is for Mum as it can vary. Also doses can affect shedding.
