Hi, I'm waiting for the date of my hysterectomy and was wondering what nightwear to take with me. I am thinking perhaps a nightie for first day when I'll have the catheter in and then pyjamas for the rest of my stay. Hoping you lovely ladies who have had the operation can tell me what worked best for them.
All the best, Sue
Hi Sue
I took a nightie due to the catheter but never used it. I was back on a ward with the surgical gown on in the evening, catheter was removed at 4am and I got up and dressed. Then I was discharged after the surgeons rounds mid morning. Paperwork and meds took a couple of hours and then I left.
At my hospital it was single rooms and I found mine quite warm- so layers that you can easily remove are good.
Nighties are good as they are comfy around your tummy and you probably won't want anything too tight. At home for the first few days it was lounge wear type things that felt most comfy- so loose t shirts, joggers etc. I had very little pain from the surgery but my tummy was bruised from the injections so soft and comfy was the way to go.
The other thing is to take slip on footwear for in the hospital and then you don't have to bend down so much.

I took a nightie but didn't wear it as only stayed one night. I did wear my dressing gown. I needed it for the wait before hand and to go to the loo next day. I was required to make three trips to the loo before I could go home! I'm not a dress person but did wear one to and from hospital and then for several days after. Really glad I took the tip from this forum for slip on footwear. Wishing you all the best.
And with a good grip- I took slip on trainers- the knitted type as the soles are more supportive/less slippy.
Comfy knickers too! I bought some of those bigger ones that come up over your tummy- cotton/stretchy and found them better.
I was in a couple of nights (abdominal) and changed into nightie next morning as more comfortable than gown. Also loose around tummy and no gaping gap at back when going to toilet. Was too warm for dressing gown. I Did take a pashmina which I wore around shoulders.
I’m not really a nightie person so I took a couple of mahoosive T shirts in with me. And a lightweight cotton dressing gown and slippers with a solid sole.
