Just wondered if anyone else had closures for laprascopic incisions that are like transparent fishing line? How long does it take for the sticky up bits to go? This is not the most medically accurate terminology I know! (I realise everyone will be different.)
Hi Clem16
Mine were closed with some sort of glue. It didn't take long to go - from what I remember the outside sticky bits were within 5-7 days. Was a bit itchy but not for long.

Hi Clem16, I had clear stitches then glue on top. Some of the glue dried a little bit spiky. So what you’re experiencing may be the end of the stitches or odd bits of glue. If it’s glue, it may work its way out in a few days, if it’s the ends of the stitches, they’re self dissolving so may take a bit longer. Somewhere on the site is a post with my hysterectomy diary on it so I’ll try and find it and look it up for you.
Found it! Here’s a copy and paste from my diary thread:
Day 23 - re my laparoscopic incisions, two of them have ends of a stitch sticking out, which is normal. I was told that the ends would eventually drop off as the internal ones dissolved, Well, last night after my (shallow) bath, I noticed that both ends had got a little bit longer so I did wonder if they were working themselves out - and I woke to find that my belly button one is out completely! So another bit of progress!
Thank you it's really helpful to know what's what! Hospital was a bit chaotic. For some reason it was bothering me. Really appreciate your reply.
I had a stitch in each hole covered with glue and loads of glue in my belly button (no stitch), they didn’t bother me and at my 2 week review the dr said not to pick them off as I could take some skin off too, so I left them… I did pick them gently off at 4 weeks as the edges were peeling and I was less tender. The stitches came off with the glue, they were still pretty well stuck on in the middle (but no skin was lost!). I’d leave them if you can… you’ll know when the time is right….
