My mum had a fast track gynaecology appointment and was informed that it is endometrial cancer due to the thickness of the lining. Biopsies were taken and she was advised to wait for result.
I just wanted to ask if anyone has been told on their initial appointment that it is cancer? Before results are back?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
Hi I was also told by a private dr who gave me a biopsy that it was very serious and probably cancer .., after my second biopsy with a different consultant he said there was no cancer but a polyps was looking suspicious.. I had my hysterectomy 6 weeks ago and the final pathology was fine no cancer … please try to stay calm until final diagnosis I know it’s worrying … I hope all goes well x
Hello HKI
Welcome to the Online Community and the Womb group.
I am sorry to hear of your Mum's biopsy.
Only the actual biopsy results can confirm for sure if cancer is present. However when I had mine, I did push the nurse for her thoughts and she agreed that it didn't look good and she referred me for an urgent CT. I didn't get the biopsy results until after this. I think they can, through experience have a good idea but I would still wait for the confirmation to be certain.
I hope that Mum does not have to wait too long for her results and gets some more clarification on her next steps.
In the meantime if talking to someone would help, then I can recommend the Support Line- which is there from 8am-8pm daily. The number is below.

Hi, I had a thickened lining (14mm as measured by a non-urgent ultrasound scan), and was referred for a hysteroscopy and biopsy under a suspected cancer pathway. I was told it was unlikely to be cancer at the time, however the biopsy results did show cancer (type 1), then I was referred for an MRI scan to indicate the stage (1A predicted from the scan). I had a laparoscopic total hysterectomy 3 weeks ago and got the histology results last week confirming stage 1a, type 1, no further treatment needed.
Without the biopsy results I believe they can only suspect cancer, so although it’s easier said than done, try not to worry too much until the results are in - one step at a time.
My GP said my Abdominal lump 17.5 cm in size was likely cancer.
I was surprised to hear that as no pathology test had been done
I guess they have a good idea, if they are experienced but I think it's wrong to do that.
I was in shock for a week.
Still yet to hear results from my CT scan from my consultant.
I had EC 2.5 years ago. The doctor first did an ultrasound. He was not saying it was cancer but only said I needed biopsy. However, I could sense from the change of his tone once he looked at the screen when doing the ultrasound. After the biopsy, he also said he needed to wait until the result to come back and there could be just something non cancerous.
But the result came n it was cancerous
In his medical letter to me and the GP, he actually said the biopsy result "confirmed" his concern. I believe he knew from his experience from the ultrasound n the image when performing the biopsy that it was likely cancer.
Not to make you worried. Just to share my story. Everyone is different.
Best wishes to your mom.
