I am waiting on a date for a total hysterectomy. I’m devastated that this  needs to be done, however it has to be done so I need to get used to the idea.

anyway I am 40 years old so not experienced any menopause symptoms. What can I do to ease the symptoms that does not involve hormones?
anything I should know?

im terrified this is going to affect my relationship, my job ect.

my husband is amazing but my insecurities do not help.

sorry for the ramble, my brain still isn’t at full capacity. See no evil

thank you

  • Hi.   I have just gone straight into menopause after my hysterectomy. The only thing I have noticed to date is hot flushes but they only last a few minutes.  Everyones experience is different though, I can only say what myn is

  • I am similar to Tashton, the hot flushes have been pretty intense and I have also found that I keep forgetting words mid sentence. Having said that, I am not in a relationship, so I can comment on the potential impact there I'm afraid. I know there were posters in the gynae dept of my hospital advertising menopause workshops, so that may be helpful to look into x

  • Hi Loopt

It may be worth talking to your doctors surgery. At mine the practice nurses run menopause clinics and they cover lots of things - not just HRT. Maybe think about it once you have had your hysterectomy. You could also call the Support Line and chat things through with one of the nurses on there.

It is great that your husband is being so supportive and that will really help. It may be a case of waiting to see how you are affected because there is a lot of difference between ladies and any symptoms may settle with time. At the moment you have had a lot to cope with finding out you need the surgery and dealing with it all. I hope that your CNS are being supportive. Maybe have a chat with them about how you are feeling.

I wish you well for your hysterectomy and if there is anything you need, please do ask.

    Jane
