Hi

Finished chemo nearly 5 weeks ago.  Had a CT scan last week and saw Consultant today.  The nodules in my lungs have disappeared as have those in my vertebrae but the cancer was eating into the bone so unfortunately I still get back pain though resting seems to help settle it.  I had a full hysterectomy in August but then another tumour was found in my groin.  This has now shrunk back to something very small which I am told may still shrink to nothing.  My cancer in the womb was a vey rare type but it seems I may have had 2 different types.  It was fast growing and there is no guarantee it will no come back. Tumour markers were nearly normal on blood test a few weeks ago and had another blood test today to check how it is now.  Appointment in 6 weeks and further scan in 3 months. I suppose it is good news, I'm still trying to process it. Still a bit of a cloud hanging over me in terms of the future but I guess it is a case of make the best of each day.

    Hi JKG,

That sounds positive, wish you well x

  • Hi Jkg

Am glad your chemo has finished and that you have some positive news. I hope that you now have some time to recover from the treatment and plenty of rest. It does seem they are monitoring you well. I do understand the feeling a bit like a cloud is hanging over you. It took me quite some time to process my cancer journey and I felt I couldn't really do it until the treatment had ended and I had more time to think. Before that I had focussed on the treatment.

When my treatment finished it was like everyone expected me to bounce back and be really happy. To be honest I just felt a bit flat for a while. Time and friends and family have helped. I am still seen every 12 weeks so I get the feeling that it's hanging over you. Just when I start to relax and think of other things, I get the letter to go back in.

Have you been offered any counselling or support to come to terms with it all and process what has happened? If you call the Support Line they can go through what can be offered by Macmillan and also check if there is any support in your local area. The number is at the end of this and they are lovely on there.

  • Thanks Jane, great advice as always and yes "flat" is the feeling. Starting back at my choir tonight so that should cheer me up.

    Hi

I'm pleased you've had some positive news. I understand how you feel re the cloud hanging over you. I came out of my end of treatment appointment feeling the same. I've since learnt that it's a very common response. This group may be useful to you community.macmillan.org.uk/.../
