Then 12 weeks later due to go on a holiday for 2 weeks

not flying but a cruise from uk to Europe

I am due to pay balance next weeK ?

So hoping I'll be ok to go

even if I'm resting and not walking too far

any thoughts please ?  X

  • Have you been okay to get travel insurance?

  • I was going to look in a few weeks as it's not till April I don't want to pay the balance and then can't go

may have to ask nurse but gas to be paid by 8 th Jan

  • I am not worried about the cost of travel insurance but will I be able to go away 12 weeks in April  after my operation ?

should I ask my nurse before paying balance 8 th Jan ?

can anyone help me please advise or will 12 weeks be too soon ?

  • Hello mollysue

I would think it best to speak with your nurse before paying the balance. And I think looking around for travel insurance would be a good idea now to see what you can get covered for.

It would depend on several factors- is it in the UK, Are you planning on flying, How long will you be travelling for, How long are you planning to be away ,Will someone be with you, would you need vaccinations etc. This link may help.

I would not have felt up to going abroad at 12 weeks but at 6 weeks would have been ok to go for a short break in the UK. But it would need to have been a restful type of holiday rather than too much walking/activity.

We are all different though and it's probably best to talk things through. It would be lovely to have something to look forward to after the hysterectomy though.

Also one thing to consider is that although you are normally given a provisional stage and grade things can sometimes change. Before surgery I was predicted stage 1-2 and told that it was very likely that the surgery alone would be all that was needed and if there was any further treatment  it would likely be a couple of sessions of brachytherapy. However when I got my post op pathology results back although I was only stage 1b I needed chemotherapy and external beam radiotherapy. My results came back 3 1/2 weeks after surgery and they do vary between hospitals.

  • I will call my nurse next week to see what she advised before paying the balance

it's a cruise so from uk  so restful with my husband so wouldn't have to do alot of walking  but I'd rather get get advise first

  • That's the best idea. I suppose with a cruise the main thing would be access to medical care if needed and insurance put in place ahead of time. Sounds lovely though

  • mollysue, definitely ask your CNS re the holiday, but if you do go ahead, I’d suggest trying this insurance company as a good friend of mine with stage 4 prostate cancer has recently got cover with them (also for a cruise!). Some companies can be a bit tricky over cancer but this company were amazing! www.insurancewith.com/.../

  • Hi Mollysue. I went on cruise holiday not too long after my op too. I like a cruise and usually get a regular travel insurance. I had to get a more specialist/ expensive! one. It wasn't as dear though as a friend that had just had a knee op! I checked out Staysure and Allclear. There are a few that deal with people with ops and illnesses. It's probably sensible to get a quote and say you are awaiting an op. They might tell you to get back to them after the op. Make sure your cruise excursions aren't too high activity, otherwise timewise you should be ok. I tended to do half day ones or excursions that were low/moderate activity. I was still a bit cautious after 12 weeks but was out walking my dogs etc. It is a risk paying a balance without getting your travel insurance first. I would ring a travel insurance and be honest and see what they tell you to do. Do get quotes though. There seems to be a vast difference in them. Best wishes for your op.

  • Thanks Mel

it will be 12 weeks after op and we dont do much activity trips anyway

just half day coach ones and  only a couple

cruising great to relax and chill and car trip to port  an hour away from us

I don't mind  paying more for travel insurance

how long after your op did  you go on the cruise ?

    Thankyou
