Hi All
So I had my robotic total hysterectomy (vaginally) a week ago for Grade 1 endometrial cancer. I feel that generally I am recovering well at home. However, on taking my first short walk three days post surgery, I noticed what I can only describe as a sense of pressure in my lower vagina - especially on the right side - which has not improved since and is most noticeable when walking. It also feels like my labia is very dry and uncomfortable (too much information probably). I realise I am very early days post surgery and a vaginal hysterectomy has probably been a bit traumatic for the 'old lady atrophied vagina' - but my concern of course is has something prolapsed? Externally nothing is 'protruding' that I can see, but it IS uncomfortable. Has anybody else experienced this? Any advice gratefully received. Thank you.
Hi EllieB3
Best thing to do is to call your CNS. There should be a number on your discharge paperwork. It would be best to get it checked. I can understand your worry that something may have prolapsed but it could be swelling or bruising perhaps from the surgery. They would also be able to suggest a moisturising cream, suitable to be used around the labia area that should help make things a bit more comfortable.

Hi EllieB3, well done for having had your op and I’m glad you’re recovering well. You will still be sore and swollen inside - layers of stitches - so that’s likely it. I’d recommend giving your ward or CNS a call to let them know and ask, so that they can reassure you. I phoned mine 2-£ times in the first week or two just to check. Also, asking you just to make sure: are you being careful not to lift anything heavier than a mug of coffee? Not bending down to the floor very much if at all? Not vacuuming, ironing or lifting saucepans or a full kettle? Also did the hospital/your CNS give you a leaflet about post hysterectomy exercises?
Hi Retired23
Check with your CNS as you are only 12 days post op but there are a lot of different vaginal/labia moisturising gels that you can buy over the counter at the chemist or online. They may even offer you something on prescription.

I would think it is from where the stitches are and swelling and bruising. I did feel a bit of a dragging sort of sensation when I started to move around more, but always better to be checked and they never mind. They will probably just be able to reassure you on the phone but if they are concerned they will check you out.
Thanks Marmite. No,they didn't give me any exercises- I just had to crib them off the Royal Collage of Gynae's website this morning. No - I'm not overly lifting stuff, am being careful!
Gentle occasional pelvic floor exercises (following guidelines) should help prevent anything dropping!
