Had my last check up today and happy to say signed off. Had my op in August 2018 Stage 1a grade 3. This is a great site and offers so much support to everyone ... it certainly helped me during the last 5 years.

  • Hi Maggie

Am so pleased to hear that. It is great to hear some positive news and I am sure it will help others who are at different stages on their journeys.

    Thank you for sharing

  • Hi, it's not such good news for me.  I am now 5 years and one month post treatment and was signed off.  I had stage 1a endometrial cancer and had surgery followed by radiotherapy for 25 sessions.  I have just been diagnosed with secondary endometrial caner in my lungs - both lungs with a large mass in my left lung.  I am deverstated that I had not idea - there is no reoccurance of my primary cancer but now this.  I was signed off by gynae oncology 6 months ago and now I'm back.

  • I am really gutted for you MadamT to get so far and for this news. I also worry about secondary cancers as the check ups are only for recurrence in the vaginal area and my hospital does not do scans. How did you become aware did you have symptoms or just a scan. I hope you have a plan for treatment .. sending you a virtual hug.

  • Hi Maggie, I had lung cancer symptoms which I had thought was long Covid.  No idea that it was secondary cancer but I saw my gynae consultant today and she said this is like a 1% chance of happening - my radiotherapy 5 years ago will probably have prevented any reoccurence in the pelvic area.  I'm offered Paclitaxel and carboplatin for 6 rounds and then review - waiting for my original pathology to be checked to see whether I will respond to immunotherapy.  It could be worse, it is just my lungs - but there are two masses in my left lung and loads of nodules in my right lung.  Just hoping that it responds well to the chemo.  Thank you for the virtual hug.X

  • Hello Madam T

This is so sad especially as you were past the 5 year mark. Sound like the hospital are very much on-the-ball and moving swiftly. I hope the chemotherapy does its job, if not there are many new types of immunotherapy out there.

If you don't mind me asking, what grade of cancer did you have, was it high grade?

  • Hi Mad, I only know that it was 1b.  It wouldn't have passed a threshold for chemotherapy - my consultant told me that today and she said that my treatment in West Hertfordshire was the same as I would have been offered under Surrey and Sussex.  I think I was just unlucky

  • So it sounds like it was possibly low grade, or you would have been offered brachytherapy, but then again there are some hospitals that don't offer chemotherapy for high grade if it was early stage. I think whatever it was, we need to think that any cancer is cancer that is unpredictable and behaves differently in us all.

We must all be vigilant at getting any symptoms checked out in case. You have been very unlucky but this is life unfortunately. I do wish you well with treatments and take good care of yourself. xxx

  • Hi Maggie, I’m really pleased for you - it must feel like such a milestone for you! Hopefully you can now put it behind you as best as you can and look forward. I had my op in Jan 22 and then some radio, and this whole experience has taught me so much. We will all always live with the awareness of possible recurrence, but for me I try to live in the now, in the “what do I know for sure today”, and it gets me by. Bless you!

  • That’s wonderful news  , i hope now after being signed off that everything goes well. It’s a strange feeling actually being signed off from regular check ups. Just wondered have they said that you can still contact them with any concerns that you may have. I was given this after my last check up as reassurance really they were absolutely fantastic with me and helped with some other issues i am having and made sure i am kept an eye on. But having that you can still call us does really help.

  • I am so sorry to hear about this   it’s definitely very sad to hear this especially as you were just signed off six months prior. I hope they rid the mass in your lungs with good treatment. Have you visited the lung cancer group here on the community? Lung cancer forum Heres the link if it of any help to you, i thought it would be helpful to hear from others with lung cancer , i know this is a secondary from womb cancer but everyone’s experience helps each other. I hadn't known about it being so rare either. Please keep us up to date with your treatment and heres me sending all my best wishes to you.
