For those of you who’ve already had a hysterectomy, what are the things that you’re especially glad you took? Let’s have suggestions here for what to pack so that newbies coming to the group can get some ideas.

For me, these were the most important things:

- my own pillow (I don’t think I’d have slept at all without it)

- snacks (fruit gums to ease post-op throat, mints, savoury snacks, cake/cereal bars)

- iPad and extra long charging lead

- my favourite fruit squash

  • Ear plugs and eye mask

    ipad

    vaseline for dry lips

  • Nighties rather than pyjamas, phone charger, i pad,

Toiletries- mini hand gel, pads, wipes for hands and face to freshen up. Comfy clothes to go home in, nothing tight around tummy, pads and comfy knickers, slip on shoes- so you don't have to bend down to put them on, phone numbers for next of kin etc written on paper

  • Amused that we all agree on iPad (or equivalent). I certainly appreciated an extra long charging lead. I also ensured that I downloaded a few things including audiobooks from library, ebooks and the like as the hospital WiFi could be slow.
Comfy knickers and loose fitting clothing. As it’s getting cooler, a comfortable dressing gown.

  • A handheld fan was my absolute saviour! Magazines (I just couldn’t concentrate on a book) and definitely a dressing gown too. Lip balm and throat sweets are also a good idea

  • How could o forget to mention the fan! I bought a small battery operated desk fan off Amazon and it was well used..I did have a fan by the bed when I arrived on the ward but the lady in the next bed had a temperature and no fan so I told them I’d use my little battery one and she could have the hospital one.

  • tbh, I had keyhole surgery and went home the next day.  I think the comfy clothes and slip on shoes is important, I also wanted sweets for my sore throat

  • So did I MadamT - still wanted all my comforts though
