I'm 14 days post total abdominal hysterectomy and am, thankfully, making a good recovery.
I'm interested to know if anyone else has had post-op bladder discomfort? For the last few days I have had like an ache in my bladder - it's almost like my bladder can't sit comfortably without my uterus behind it. I have developed urinary urgency over the last few days too. I thought I might have a UTI and have been prescribed antibiotics from my GP but they haven't made much difference.
My surgery was quite extensive - 41/2 hours, but I don't think that would make any difference.
Is it too soon to be concerned?!
Hi Rosiexsam, im almost five weeks post op, I had shooting pains going between my legs and bladder pressure aches, I didn’t think it was a UTI but I was prescribed antibiotics just incase, finished the course and for about four days after still had the pressure but it’s all disappeared now, that was the only pain I had after the hysterectomy good luck with your recovery x
Hi Rosiexsam, my hospital told me to call my ward if I had any post op issues, so I’d advise you to contact them or chat with your CNS to get advice.
Hi Rosiexsam
I had alot of bladder discomfort for around 8 days very sore to when going to the toliet and difficult to sit even on a cushion I had a test for UTI but it came back negative but I did have antibotics. The evening of getting the antibotics the it just disappeared. It was my CNS who insisted I did a urine test and to let them know the results either way. Hope you are feeling better soon. Kira
Hi Roxiexsam, I had fluid coming out post op, few days after. Not straightaway from vagina and at first thought it may be urine but it turned out to be lymphatic fluid and when it collected in the abdominal cavity it felt like a pressure type discomfort more than pain, at times when I strained it would gush out and had to wear incontinence pads. I rang the hospital and they tested the fluid and in fact was not urine but lymphatic drainage and they said it was because of lymphendectomy performed with hysterectomy and would heal itself in good time. There is a link of the post I started whih I will try to attach:
