Hi ladies, hope your all fine,
I was wondering if anyone has had a sore back just after treatment? I had 6 cycles of chemotherapy and 3 brachytherapy ,just after my second brachytherapy I got a sore back but just put it down to the treatment. I have pain all day every day but it’s not unbearable pain. In the end I went to my Doctor on Thursday,to see if he could he could give me something but he said he couldn’t give me something for it as he doesn’t know what’s wrong. He said I need a MRI . He emailed the hospital to say he recommended I get a MRI. Today a consultant from the hospital phoned me and said they are going to do a MRI and want it done before I see my oncologist in March.. Am just wondering if any you have had back pain after treatment?
Hi Hawthorn, yes I did. I had an MRI which revealed I have spinal stenosis - an absolute nuisance but not linked to my treatment. I also had a bone scan which showed I have osteopenia (pre-osteoporosis) which is likely due in part to my hypothyroidism and in part to my radiotherapy, but that doesn’t involve any pain.
Thanks for quick reply MarmiteFan59, that’s good it wasn’t cancer related. I don’t think this is cancer related but I think once you’ve been diagnosed with cancer once it’s always at the back of your mind. Am claustrophobic and am not looking forward to a MRI but if I can find out what’s wrong it will be worth it.
Hawthorn I also get claustrophobic and don’t like MRIs but I found that wearing an eye mask and imagining I was somewhere else really helped.
Hi Hawthorn I think it's the sensible route and glad your GP is on the ball. No one I know likes MRIs but at least it can rule out the obvious and possibly give so e answers to what's going on. I've had both chemotherapy and Brachytherapy like yourself and don't suffer any after pains at all (luckily) and my Consultant told me to contact them straight away if I feel any unusual twinges or pain that does not go away or is persistent. I do hope it's nothing, take care xxxx
Hi Hawthorn- I had back pain following the chemo that lasted most of the way through my radiotherapy. The consultant said it was down to the paclitaxol chemo- it attacks the bones around hips where the bone marrow is made? I was given strong pain relief but didn't take it as it made me feel really nauseous/woozy. It pretty much resolved soon after treatment ended although I still get the odd twinge
