This might be an odd question. It’s about appropriate post surgery clothing. Looks like my surgery is happening in a couple of weeks and so thinking about options now.
i pretty much live in loose joggers and pyjamas. Now I am aware that during my laparoscopic exploratory surgery that my belly button was involved and that for the full hysterectomy being done with a robot likely will also involve the same area.
Sometimes the area does feel a bit tender if my waistband catches it. So thinking that it might be best to have some loose clothing at home that doesn’t touch my waist belly button area the way joggers do though concerned about my legs feeling cold. Wearing tights rather defeats the nothing on waist. I have loose summer dresses and a few nightdresses but I feel like I need more coverage and warmth in this weather.
oh I do have an Oodie though it’s rather bulky
Hi Muse, I also tend to live in joggers or PJs, always with elasticated waists. I had a laparoscopic hysterectomy not robotic and had three incisions not four as some have with robotic - one in my belly button, one over towards the left and one below and to the right. I took a nightie (actually massive t shirt) to hospital plus a pair of joggers that were on the big side. My wounds were not covered when I came round from the anaesthetic and I kept them that way. I personally didn’t find that my clothes caught on my belly button at all. Just as well as I don’t do dresses and haven’t worn one in over 25 years! I wore baggy PJs at night and they didn’t rub either. If your joggers or PJ bottoms are loose fitting/baggy you may even be able to pull them up a bit above your waist anyway, I was back in my normal joggers/trousers within about a week. I bought pants a size bigger but never used them at all.
Hello Muse
I took a loose dress to come out of hospital with but took thick black tights too and when put them on, had to ask a nurse for scissors to cut the waistband as it was uncomfortable around my waist. When I got home, I just knew I wouldn't be able to wear any sort of leggings/jeggings or jeans touching my abdomen area so my daughter went out (Matalan ) and found a couple of cheap stretchy dresses for me, they were great, and of course I wore the hospital socks so didn't bother with tights even though it was this time last year, It was ok indoors and the dresses were pretty long. Maxi style. I didn't care, just wanted to be comfortable....you say you have summer dresses? You could put a Tshirt under or a thin jumper/ cardigan to keep warm.Hope this helps. X
Hi Muse
i had my surgery 3 weeks ago, laparoscopic with a larger incision on the bikini line. I normally live in jeans so knew that wasn’t an option for straight after surgery. I don’t normally like leggingas I have skinny legs and they don’t look good . But I invested in a beautiful soft pair from LoveLeggings. They have a lovely soft waistband and the winter version are fleecy lined. I ordered the “tall” version as well. They are so good I ordered a second pair! In the first few weeks my stomach was swollen so you need something to stretch with you. Good luck with the surgery
Hi Muse, I had robotic hysterectomy so had 5 scars one being on my belly button. Before my op I just ordered a couple of pairs of cheap joggers & jeggings but a size bigger than I would usually have and they worked fine for me. My recovery was when we had the 2 extreme heatwaves so it wasn't fun having to wear the surgical stockings during that, but I didn't find my clothes bothered me too much. The stockings will also give you an extra layer to keep warm - so would suggest wear anything that's comfortable for you and not too tight.
Hope your op goes well.
Cheers I have bought myself some PJ bottoms a size larger and figure that should be fine
Cheers. I am a bit too generously built for leggings but I think very soft and stretchy pyjama bottoms a size larger
Muse have you seen the thread about what to pack in your overnight bag?
Yes. This will be my third overnight (or longer?) in two months though having had the smaller exploratory surgery I am now more prepared for having the small belly wounds, the bloating and the constipation .. kind of a dress rehearsal for the hysterectomy.
Happily my stepson will be coming down and staying with me, which takes a lot of pressure off
