Hysterectomy

Hi it’s my second post, still navigating the site and reading through the posts so helpful and informative cannot deny I’ve shed a few tears reading them, I had my total hysterectomy on the 31st January as a planned day case. I Woke up feeling extremely nauseous cannot remember much except someone telling me I’m having a treat and I was going on the private ward of the Christie hospital, which actually was nice, a private room to recover, I was told I wouldn’t be going home as they had to make an incision in my bowel because of previous surgery’s and wanted me to stay a further 24hours which was fine, I was just so nauseous I just wanted to sleep, I was up and about the next day and went home that evening. I’m just recovering at home and so far it’s been straightforward although now I’m feeling intense pressure where my cervix was and shooting pain into my vagina only occasionally throughout the day, has anyone else experienced this? I’m trying not to think about the results which I assume I will get in the next week or so, I hope everyone is keeping well. X

  • Hello Holly1978

This sounds like a strange symptom so soon after surgery, my hysterectomy was January last year and apart from feeling bloated and very tender, I don't remember having shooting pains like you described. Hopefully you haven't strained yourself by bending stretching etc?

Also are you keeping yourself mobile, maybe walking gently around the garden or down the street etc, this will help immensely if you are able to comfortably. I will suggest that should this continue then you need to let the hospital know as could be an internal stitch pulling or similar. Sorry can't be more help, let us know if it resolves itself, all these posts are so beneficial to others. Take care xxx

  • Thankyou Madesp I think I will ring next week if it continues, yes keeping mobile besides these shooting pains I’ve been doing really well walking keeping as active as possible not over doing it, no bending or stretching, will let you know how I get on incase anyone else in the future has these type of symptoms thankyou x

  • Hi Holly, like Mad I’m wondering if it’s at all possible that you might be overdoing things at all? It’s unfortunately quite easy to unintentionally do this when we start to feel better in ourselves. Are you getting gentle exercise but also resting enough? Are you not lifting anything heavier than a mug of tea, not vacuuming, not lifting full saucepans or trays, not doing a lot of bending? And are you putting your feet up in the evening and taking it easy?

  • MarmiteFan59, I don’t think so, I’ve really took it easy as either my hubby or daughter have always been here all I’ve done is wander up and down the garden and house regularly,I think maybe it’s something more, as I don’t feel quite right when I urinate, there’s no pain and doesn't seem to be an infection, just something seems off I cannot put my finger on it, thankyou think I will ring tomorrow rather than wait for them to call me  x

  • Hi Holly I hope you get some answers as it seems worrying. We know our own bodies and very aware when something is not right. X
