I'm aware that I am being impatient as my initial MDT is on Monday but .... my gynaecologist told me a hysterectomy and adjunct radiotherapy is going to happen.I have a grade 3 adenocarcinoma and wanted to know if all of you ladies with similar diagnosis have had a laparoscopic hysterectomy or had to be "cut open"? Everyone is different, but I'd like to be psyched up and a whole weekend is a long time to wait!
Thanks to all. Even after a couple of days of being in the forum I feel calmer and less anxious knowing that I'm not alone dealing with this!
Hi Rosiexsam I had the laparoscopic procedure and was amazed at how little discomfort I had post-surgery. My surgeon said he planned to do it this way but told me that sometimes circumstances changed and open surgery was necessary so the consent form usually provides for this. One of the first things I did when I came round was to feel my tummy and I was relieved to just feel 4 tiny dressings!

Hi Roxiexsam,
I ended up having X2 surgeries. Hysterectomy done laparoscopic as thought to be stage 1a and that's it finished with. Results showed was in muscle layer of womb and aggressive/grade 3. Next op was pelvic node dissection/completion staging but further tumour growth found. That one was laparoscopic as well.

Hi Rosiexsam I had a total abdominal hysterectomy in early October 2022 following a diagnosis of mix endometroid and serous endometrial cancer. Diagnosed as stage 1a grade 3. As I also had 2 non cancerous fibroids in my uterus the surgeon said it was 'rather bulky down there' so keyhole surgery was not an option. I didn't have too much pain after the op, it was more uncomfortable, nor did I have any bleeding. Recovery was slow but sure. Recently had PDR brachytherapy. Oncologist is hopeful that no further treatment will be needed. I was anxious pre op but it was not as bad as I thought it would be.
Hi Roxiesam, I had a laparoscopic hysterectomy almost a year ago - like oldady my surgeon told me he’d aim for laparoscopic but with the proviso that open surgery might be necessary. He did add that my uterus was quite small (despite having had two children!) and should come out of my vagina quite easily! I was pleasantly surprised how little discomfort I experienced afterwards. If you’d like to read about my experience in more detail, I wrote a diary thread at the time - the link is here: community.macmillan.org.uk/.../1725634
