Hi Everyone,

I finally got my results back after waiting 5 weeks(felt like forever)i recieved an email and i was too scared to open it,so had a huge glass of red wine!

But results were good,but i still feel worried,why ?

The email said that  the sample taken from the lining of my womb, has shown normal cells with no worrying features, the sample is very small due to the thin lining of the womb, this  in itself is reassuring and our guidelines  advise no further action is required,if you have further  bleeding, please contact your gp.

But what i want to know is why 2 years ago when i was also post menapausel, but bled my uterus lining read 3.7 or 3.9 and now its 4.4 i know they said it should be 4 and because mine was slightly over and i had a bleed on examination, and once in summer that it led to all this investigation, but now what ?

i was totally unaware my uterus was getting bigger?if it had not been for me asking my doctor about a prolapsed bladder the smear test nurse told me i had,  and she then  examined  me and she told me i was bleeding so sent me for all the test which im greatfull for,but im so worried as what if it continues to get bigger ?

what i think im asking is can i ask my doctor to  do regular  check ups on my uterus ,so we can monitor the size ?

or can i ask for a hysterectomy? as i feel no womb, no more worry ? is that naive of me?

i should be so happy  and i am but i  also feel scared still, and guilty asking on here as i know many have not had good news

Any advice would be great ,Thank you x

  • Hi I love cake,

I'm so pleased for you that your results have come back normal. The thickness of your womb lining will vary depending on your hormones, hence why before the menopause it's normal to have a lining of anything from 1-15mm, and after menopause is less than 4mm, some places say less than 5mm, so I wouldn't worry too much about the change as it does vary considerably

In my experience docs won't do hysterectomies if they feel there is no clinical need. Also, it's not always a solution as you just get other symptoms post op,
