Hi all, just wondering how people have coped with and have got on with their diagnosis. I was diagnosed with stage 4 leimosarcoma in my womb in october - i have had 2 cycles (of 6) of chemotherapy and am on doxurubicin. i have had some side effects but more than anything else, it is my mental health that is causing me the greatest issues. My brain will not stop with - what ifs, will not stop with what side effect will i have next? I have every scenario in my mind but i just wondered how others got past this? surely it must be overwhelming and normal? i dont really leave the house and so not only is home my sanctuary but its my prison too. i cant drive as i have been fitted with a catheter and i think that is probably my biggest issue as its uncomfortable. its navigating the whole thing i am finding so difficult. any ideas - support - where to seek help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Boo,
Sorry to hear you're struggling. The treatment itself is hard enough to cope with, never mind the diagnosis. Please click on my username if you would like to read my profile.
I still find it hard to talk about but found that counselling helped. I also find that getting out for a walk clears my head. Could you plan to walk on your good days? My CNS referred me for counselling supplied by Macmillan. The chemo nurses referred me for psychologist counselling within the same hospital trust.
The trick is to try to take back control, this is very hard when you're on treatment, as your physical health is so up and down. Try to plan things that you'll look forward to and enjoy. Good luck with your treatment and I hope you reach out and get some help. Best wishes to you,
A x
Hi Boo12,
So sorry to hear that you are struggling. The referral for a cancer psychologist can take some time. While you are waiting you could try to speak to a volunteer. A friend signposted me to the Macmillan buddy system. You will be matched with a trained volunteer for a chat and help.
All the best to you, Can xx
