Hi,
Having naively sailed through 25 Radiotherapy and 2 Brachytherapy I expected Chemotherapy to be more difficult...but this...! I have had bad reactions to Carboplatin and Cisplatin which have affected my blood markers, my energy levels....Then I had Abraxane which I tolerated better. The previous drugs caused anaemia, low magnesium which required both blood transfusions and magnesium infusion twice. ( 5 hr procedure).
So now it seems to be decision time on whether treatment stops. Can my body take any more toxicity? Anyone else had this Chemotherapy experience?
Hello crocus
Well done completing the radio and brachytherapy.
So sorry you had reactions to chemo. I had Paclitaxel and Carboplatin but only managed three Paclitaxel/ carbo cycles as suffered severe allergy reactions to the Paclitaxel and so continued with just Carboplatin for the final three cycles as those were just fine. I'm very lucky that I have only suffered sore dry eyes due to the chemo and seem to be getting better each day. I still don't feel 100% to be honest but I think I'm getting there! I had a good discussion with Chemo nurse who bluntly advised that there is always the risk of fatality with the reaction so I was not prepared to push it. I'm happy that I tolerated the three that I did have and asked about Abraxane but my hospital would not be able to fund this as it's very expensive.
I think I did write about this on the Chemotherapy thread within this forum in Womb cancer Group if you wish to read it.
Hope this helps but feel free if there's anything else you need to ask. Take care xxx
Hi Crocus
Sorry to hear that you are struggling with Chemo. Like Madesp I also had reactions and infections which resulted in reduced doses and I couldn't manage the 6th cycle.
When do you have your scan? I hope that this will get to the bottom of things for you. I know its easier said than done but try to stay positive and remember you have successfully completed Brachy and Radiotherapy.
Please keep us posted we are here for you.
Big hugs Robin x
Hi Crocus
I am feeling well and have my next appointment in February. I should add that I feel incredibly lucky that chemo does not appear so far to have damaged my body only my eyes affected so far but they are getting better by the day, I realise it could be much worse, Oh and my hair is growing back nicely after losing about 50% of it during Chemo. I am discharged from Oncology and will be seen by gynaecology department. My latest scan and bloods were good and I hope you will also get some positive news when you get your scan and next bloods done. You say in your post your blood levels are dropping but I'm unsure what you mean. My blood tests were all within normal range and Ca125 was low at 8 which is excellent, what was yours if you don't mind sharing? xx
Hi So glad things going well for you. Not got my actual bloods figures but Consultant said haemoglobin levels low. Waiting for GP to receive so I can look on NHS app. Will get back to you when I know. She queried if I had had any blood loss...but I haven't.
Next appt 21st Dec. Xx
