Hi everyone,

I will be getting my total hysterectomy with on Wednesday. I'm so glad that will be it over and done with. Am just hoping I'll get out the next day.

My last hospital stay was during lockdown, when I went for my three times cancelled pacemaker check-up and they discovered my pc battery was almost flat. I wouldn't have lasted the week, as I have complete heart block, so I can't function without it. I wasn't allowed to go home and had to have an emergency op to implant a new device. I had nothing with me and I was bored to tears. I couldn't even leave the ward to get a magazine or book. There was a TV with limited options in my room in cardiology, two of the channels showed hospital dramas. I definitely didn't want to watch those.

This time I feel so organized, having cleaned the house from top to bottom, garden pruned and tidied, batch cooking done. Online shop done, fridge, freezer and cupboards stocked, I have my overnight case packed, adding items from the list circulated on here. I will have a spare bag at home which can be brought in for me in case I have to stay longer. Fingers crossed I won't have to. Bring it on!

  • Hi Sabine WOW! You've blown me away with your positivity and are so very organized!!! Well done you!. A nurse once told me that it is known fact that positive people have good outcomes heal quicker etc from surgery, so hopefully you're already in that category. Are you having keyhole surgery as recovery is quicker but do remember not to overdo or stretch too much. We are all here to answer any questions you may have following your op. Sounds like everything is in place! I can advise you that Marmitefan59 did post a 'Diary' following her op and that gives a good guide to know what to expect. It certainly helped me. Let me know if you can't find it on here and I'll send the link.

Fingers crossed all goes well for you xx

  • Good luck with your op and recovery and well done on your organisational skills! Had the same op on 6 October so am now nearly 3 weeks into my recovery period. Going well so far, slow but steady progress.

  • Hi Madesp,

Thank you so much for your lovely message. It's very uplifting. I will be reading all info on here, already had a look at Marmitefan's diary. All you ladies have really helped me through all this and made cancer less scary. So far so good. I will let you know how I get on. XXX

  • Thank you very much, Sistermoon. X

  • Hi Robin,

Thanks for your message. Being organized helps, as I know what I'm like, tempted to do stuff when I should be resting. I will let you know how it goes. Xx

  • Hi SH, Thanks for your message. Glad you are feeling OK after your op.

  • That's it done and dusted. Unfortunately I couldn't have keyhole surgery as some of the instruments used might interfere with my pacemaker, so I have a bigger scar. I had an epidural and GA. l No pain as yet, glad it's all over.

  • Well done Sabine thats it all over. rest up now and listen to your body don't go lifting anything heavy.

    Hugs Robin x
