Hi, really sorry to post here, just seeing if anyone can offer advice or experienced.

I’ve been experiencing daily bleeding for a year, initially blamed on depo but stopped that in December, it continues and was on progesterone only pill for ages and bleeding continued without a days break, always fresh red, no periods, if there wasn’t blood there was clots, specially if I went for a pee, blood would flood out when my bladder was full too as if it was pressing on something. Also side pain, extreme intermittent low down central/pelvic pain and feelings of pressure over the last 6 months.

i was referred for an ultrasound which took 5 months on waiting list, she didn’t give me info then but asked a few times about my c sectioned, said to make an appointment with doctor for a weeks time.

telephone doctor appointment was in for bad back pain I’ve been having anyway as on tramadol and diazapam, she told me that womb lining looked normal which is good as what they are looking for with cancer, but there was an area/cluster of blood vessels and a clot with a question mark, she said there is also a polyp on right ovary, she said she would get the referral into gynaecologist now.

I had to phone back for advice about a contradiction as now on norihisterian and the other doctor told me he read the scan differently and that it said area blood vessels/polyp/other?

most the pain is my left side but this was hidden by my bowel.

im confused as I didn’t think you could get a polyp on an ovary just on womb so don’t know if she made a mistake about location and just meant near it? Also don’t know what area or blood vessels and clot means she did say where blood might be coming from:

I got a letter to say added to waiting list no idea of timescales and every case is reviewer by a clinician and they decide how long I need to wait or how urgent? In my area it can be up to 52 weeks!

anyone experienced similiar with blood vessels and where you seen quickly?

thanks

  • Hi . This is a difficult one! Most of us here presented symptoms which put us in the 2 weeks wait cancer pathway. That normally entails ultrasound, followed by hysteroscopy with biopsies taken, then CT scan, sometimes MRI.

An ultrasound, if showing the womb has thickened, sets alarm bells ringing in the first place and as yours is normal that seems to put things on the back-burner, hence the prediction of 52 weeks, if cancer is suspected you'd be whipped in before you know it.

I would pester your GP and if you have a letter from a consultant, phone his secretary and ask for clarification. My friend had polyps and I believe one was calcified and it did take nearly a year for her operation to be done.

Sorry I can't be more help, hugs, Barb xx

  • Thanks so much for replying: just can’t find much about blood clots appearing as polyps etc on scans!

my letter came through about three hours after the waiting list letter to say I’d been added, I’ve an appointment on the 19 November so will find out more then.

Still be good if anyone has any experience of the blood clot situation.

  • Hi

Sorry I don’t have the experience you are looking for by but just wanted to say that polyps can be in many places other than the womb itself-for example the cervix or ovaries. It’s good news that your womb lining looks fine, but I’d not be wanting to wait up to 52 weeks for investigation of your symptoms. Hopefully it will be much quicker than that when your case is reviewed.

  • Thank you, I was confused about that as can’t find anything online to do with polyps on ovaries just cysts. Not to worry about waiting times I’ve had a letter with an appointment already on the 19/11 so that was a relief! X

  • Oh that’s really good it’s not a long wait. Quicker you’re seen, quicker you’ll have the answers you need. I do hope it goes well for you, and hope you’ll let us know how it goes.

  • Hi, I think you need to pester your doctor and try and get them to put you on the 2 week pathway. All this waiting is doing nothing for your stress levels. At least then you’ll have an answer sooner than later. Can I ask where you live as 5 months is an awful long time for a routine US. I’m in Cheshire and it’s only about 3 weeks here. I think you need something to either put your mind at rest or something to fight rather than being in this limbo land x

  • thanks for your reply I’m in edinburgh, the waiting list for us is actually 6 months! Madness, I originally did get a CT scan which took place within 2 weeks to rule out kidney issues you would think ct would be much longer!!

I’ve had the ultrasound which has found the probable cause now and have my consultant appointment on 19 November so not long to wait now x

  • Just to update I was back in at my doctor two weeks ago due to back and pelvic pain escalating and she explained my scan properly to me.

i don’t have a polyp on my ovary. I have a haemorrhagic cyst on my right ovary. I have an area on my uterus which is either a polyp / blood vessels and a clot/ or other? Which is exactly how the scan words it.

she said my appointment is already urgent as it could be so nothing can be done to speed it up. She gave me more painkillers. I’ve passed a huge today and the bleeding is heaviest it’s ever been,
