Feeling fed up

I am bit fed up and emotional over the last few days and would love tips for cheering myself up. TBSO three weeks ago for stage 1a. Histology due 5th October at post op check. Had an intermittent headache for a few days that is making me a bit nauseous, no info at all from surgery so the no knowing anything at all is driving me crazy. Also had a grade 2 episiotomy to remove large uterus ( so GP said, no one at hospital told me) and the stitches have opened, it isnt painful just smarts so decided to leave it until post op check to see if anything needs doing.( looks revolting but clean ) I am three years post menopausal and the only symptom I had before surgery were night sweats, now get hot flashes during day too! Bowels still all over the place and every time I do a few small house jobs I get a massively swollen belly!

Please can anyone offer some tricks and tips for a good cheer up? Thanks x

My sincerely apologies for such a self pity fest, I know so many are going through so much more and I take my hat off to you all.

  • Hi Lancslass. Put some music on that you can have a good old sing along to!  We have all been through the rollercoaster of emotions and have these down times when we feel sorry for ourselves but hopefully you will feel a bit brighter tomorrow.  Just take each day at a time xx

  • Hi Sam, that’s not good enough at all that you weren’t told you’d had an episiotomy, nor, I presume, given any advice about caring looking after that area! I had an episiotomy when I had my second child, and advice was pour warm water over my bits when I was having a wee, to help minimise stinging. When you say the stitches have opened, what do you mean?

Could I also ask you what sort of “small house jobs” you’re doing? I read on your profile that you can only manage 8 mins walking at a time - where is it hurting/uncomfortable when you walk?

  • Hi, No advice given of course but have googled care, fear its a bit late now anyway. Some of the outside stitches are undone, its a bit icky to talk about but it hasn’t knitted together and I can see the stretched stitch holes  , yuk. I am guessing but i think it is possibly  its a grade 2 cut, so not as big as when one has a baby, thankfully! I think the inside ones are still together but difficult to see.

Walking is a bit easier this week, did 17 mins yesterday but foof too sore for longer unless I ‘hang on’, and we were at the park so that didn’t seem appropriate!   My GP doesn’t like Gynae stuff and advised any worries to go to A&E to access gynaecology doc, which I don’t want to do. I can’t see what the CNS would suggest different so am going to wait and just hope.

Small jobs I have/can do - simple dinner cooking, wipe down worktops, plump cushions, make a brew, pairing socks and  washing up by hand. Nothing strenuous or stretchy.

Just feeling a bit fed up, headache isn’t helping, so nauseous with it. Tomorrow is another day. Thank you for your reply xxx

  • When I had my episiotomy during childbirth, I had just 4 external stitches so it wasn’t a big one, Are yours dissolving or will you need them removed? I think the discomfort you’re feeling when walking is more likely to be from the stitched episiotomy than from your hysterectomy. Have you been doing any gentle pelvic floor exercises?

if any of your small house jobs involve any twisting or turning, even slight, that may be why you’re getting discomfort. Are you draining veg yourself or getting someone else to? Carrying your own plate or tray?

  • Definitely the episiotomy causing me the most problems. I am being very sensible with exercise and movement yet still staying active. I will stop moaning and try to be mire positive today! Thank youTwo heartsor your help and advice Two hearts

  • Hi Lancslass. Is there a NHS Walk-In Centre you can get to, for advice? The one near where I live has been very good with me on the couple of occasions I needed them.

  • can i just say ouch! That sounds very painful. That is really bad you were not given any advice at the hospital but i would however suggest you getting this wound area checked out because of infection risk etc, i would imagine if you contacted your CNS they would tell you maybe to come back to them, some have emergency gynae treatment areas or the consultant or specialist nurse would and should be able to see you. I understand your reluctance to go A&E i totally understand that but it really needs to be checked out, i am not sure when your check up is due but i am sure they would see you and sort out everything, i do hope. Although i am sorry to hear they didn’t advise the aftercare etc to you. The other thing is doing gentle things and trying as best as possible not to overdo things, its easy done.

I hope you get it all sorted very soon, but medical attention is really important i can advice and i hope they sort it out for you and it helps knit things better.

    Sending gentle bear hugs Bear

  • I know you are right, I just cant face it! I will build up the courage to at least ask the CNS what she thinks. Thanks x

  • Well that’s cheered me up! I was brave and phoned the CNS. Ref episiotomy: contact practice nurse or wait for post op check in two weeks, she wasn’t overly concerned. I will wait. BUT i couldn’t help myself and asked about the histology. Provisional report, still to be reviewed but still 1a !

Feeling relieved and much happier today Stuck out tongue winking eye Thank you all for your advice and care, especially Marmite x

  • I am glad you feel better for checking up with the CNS , as you say feeling brave and calling.  Better to let them know and nothing is too much trouble as best you are reassured. I know the waiting part for results is still on but its not long now.

    Gentle hugs
