Dear all,

Hope you are doing ok. Such a friendly lot of ladies here.Slight smile

I am recovering from the 4th cycle of paclitaxel/ carboplatin and wanted to asked you who are doing chemo of your experience.

I have felt hungry all the time during the last couple of chemos. I do understand that steroids got this as a side effect. I am taking a lower dose of steroids on Day 2 till 4 post infusion to help with the steroid withdrawal side effects alteady. Nevertheless, I could eat all the time. Some of it is trying to fight an underlying feeling of sickness, but since it doesnt feel bad enough to take antisickness tablets, I eat. I have already gained 5kg since starting treatment.

Are you also feeling hungry? Thx

    Hi Can,

I just had my 6th and last cycle of chemo yesterday. The last x2 cycles I have noticed hunger. The chemo nurses said to eat snacks instead of meals, just more often. I tend to be massively thirsty with dry mouth so drink a lot of water, juice, tea. This tends to fill me up a bit.

Hospitals/Consultants seem to have different practices re steroids. My steroids end on day 2. Could be worth speaking to your chemo nurses and seeing if they can suggest anything else. Best wishes for your treatment,

    A x

  • Hi . When I was on chemo my steroids ended on day 3 after treatment. I lost my appetite if anything. I took the anti-nausea tablets from day 6 to prevent the worse days 8-9.

I've been reading about foods to starve cancer and have changed my diet to include lots of tomatoes, colourful veg, walnuts and seeds sprinkled on yoghurt. I always ate fairly healthily so hope this helps me and perhaps you!

    Hugs, Barb xx

    Hi Barb,

Hope your scan was ok. I've been reading as well but this was an holistic approach so covered stress, diet and exercise. It's all worth a try.

  • Hi Barb,

Thanks for your reply. Can you tell us more about your cancer diet please? Did you go full keto, cutting out all sugar and carbohydrates?

I eat a lot of vegetables, nuts and seeds but I also love cake and chocolates, so would be good to know if there is a less drastic anti cancer diet to try. :).

    Best wishes, Can xx

  • Hi  I'm not following any actual diet plan. I read this article attached Cancer-Fighting Foods : Resveratrol, Green Tea, and More (webmd.com) and thought it quite interesting. So I decided to add more seeds and similar items to my diet. Only problem is hubby doesn't like things like salmon so I'll have to rethink things a bit.

I'm only slightly overweight, don't eat many cakes, sugary sweets or chocolates and have usually followed a fairly healthy diet, lots of pulses, wholegrain rice and bread, cook most things from scratch.

I've got to throw everything at the little buggers if I'm going to survive this LOL!

  • Hi Can

I was very interested to read your post. I have been feeling very hungry also during my Chemo. I finished my 5th and last cycle 3 weeks ago.  Because of the infections and reactions that I have to Paclitaxel and Carboplatin I have 10 days steriods after each cycle. Prior to my hysterectomy I had lost a stone and a half with Slimming world so I'm very disappointed that I have put about a stone back on. I'm planning to rejoin a club again once my Brachy has finished. I do sympathise with you I know what it's like to keep reaching for foods that I never bothered with before like biscuits and cakes, ive been told that this will improve now my steroids are finished.

Thanks Barb for you tips, I will take a look at the link you posted also.
