Surgery for recurrence of endometrial cancer

Hi all, I’m having a laparoscopy tomorrow to see if further surgery (hysterectomy 2 years ago) is an option for recurrence to vaginal vault. They did say there was a probability they would have to also remove my bladder. Has anyone else had this procedure done? I have serous carcinosarcoma.

hope everyone’s keeping as well as possible.

  • I am sorry to hear this Nanabear and hope an operation can go ahead for you.  If it is not too personal may I ask what your symptoms were? I fully understand if you would rather not say.  Good luck xxx

  • Hi

Different situation for me, but I had my bladder removed at the same time as my womb and everything else in my pelvis, so if you need to have your bladder removed I’ll be happy to help with any questions on that. My surgery was also due to recurrence, but cervical cancer. All the best for tomorrow.

  • Hi Georgie1,

my symptoms were quite vague really. After the hysterectomy and chemo I did well for about 12 months then started having some low abdominal pain and occasional bleeding, nothing much. I then had further chemo which have shrunk the tumours enough for surgery to be a possibility. Anyway let’s see what tomorrow brings, everything crossed.

    thankyou xxx

  • Hello nanabear,

I’m so sorry to hear about your recurrence, I know how upsetting hearing those words can be. I had further debulking surgery at the end of February for recurrence to the vaginal cuff, together with a new tumour that had attached itself to my rectum. My latest surgery was quite extensive and did include an upper vaginectomy, together with a right parametrectomy with a pelvic wall resection to deal with the vaginal cuff recurrence. In a nutshell, it means that my vagina is now shorter. Fingers crossed they can perform the same surgery for you too.

Even though my surgical team managed to save my bladder, I now have a permanent colostomy due to the removal of my rectum. I know it can be scary hearing that you may need a stoma but I’d just like to say that it’s not change my life in any way. Yes, it can be challenging at times but I can still do the things that I used to do.

Good luck for tomorrow. Take care,

    Liz x

  • thankyou Sarah, if it comes to that I will gladly look to you for advice.

  • Thankyou Liz, that makes me feel a little more positive, I don’t think anyone wants to have a stoma but if it saves your life you can learn to live with it. I also had a small area above the rectum as well as the vaginal cuff.

    1. Thank you Nanabear  I am having similar symptoms.   I wish you all the very best for today xx
