Hi everyone,
I am new to this group. Just bring dish used with stage 1a womb cancer. I have been told I need total hysterectomy . I don’t know what to expect.
I am glad to see everyone is supporting each other as I genuinely believe it’s not as bad as it appears. Fear and stress probably make things worse.
by helping and supporting each other we can take away some of the stress.
Anyone who has recently had hysterectomy and has something positive to add will be very helpful . Thank you and good luck to everyone x
Hi Simone00. Welcome to the group where we're all there to support each other! It's so much easier when you can talk to others in the same situation. We know from experience exactly what fear and stress you're going through as we've been there ourselves. It isn't as bad as it initially appears, you're quite right.
I am still grinning at "Just bring dish used with stage 1a Womb cancer". I confess I don't quite understand it but it's making me smile anyway!
It’s always helpful to others if you write a little something (or a lot) about yourself and how you came to find yourself here. Why not take a few moments to update your profile. It's always helpful for us to read if we want to ask you questions and you also won't end up repeating yourself. You can enter it into your profile (click on your username and select “Profile”) . You can amend or update it at any time. If you’re not sure what to write, just click on my username.
If you want to ask any of us any questions please come back and do so. There's always someone around and we can offer a shoulder to cry on, a hand to hold or listen to a rant, we’re here for you.
It might also be a good idea to download this booklet Understanding Womb (Endometrial) Cancer. I found it invaluable on my journey.

Hi Simone, I’m in what sounds like a similar position to you but a couple of months ahead. I was diagnosed at the end of March with Stage 1A and had a total hysterectomy 4 weeks ago. You’re right, the fear and the unknowing was the worst part for me - waiting for staging scan results and then the histology post surgery. Unfortunately there’s nothing you can do other than wait. I tried to keep busy where I could but also let myself stress and worry when it cropped up. If you can’t stress when you’ve been diagnosed with cancer then when can you right?! I tried to not let it overwhelm me though and took positives in the Stage 1A bit.
My hysterectomy went really well, it was laparoscopic and I was only in hospital overnight. I felt pretty well afterwards and was up and about quite quickly, doing regular short walks and lm still building it up. I’ve only needed minimal pain killers, my biggest problem was the referred shoulder pain from the gas used during the op. That only lasted a couple of day but was quite intense. Apart from that I’ve felt bloated and swollen but not really in any pain.
I got my histology results back 2 weeks after the op and they’ve confirmed the initial diagnosis so I’ve been told I don’t need any further treatment but will have follow ups with the team for the next 3 years. That lifted a huge weight that I hadn’t totally realised was there and I’m now feeling like I can start making plans for the rest of the year and beyond. One thing that’s still unknown for me is menopause and I was pre-menopausal before my op. Not having many symptoms at the moment but I’m sure there will be some down the line.
If there’s anything specific you want support or advice with just shout. Everyone is happy to share and give advice where we can!
Hi
thank you so much for your kind reply. I believe positive thinking and focusing on things we enjoy can take mind off these issues. I have come out for shopping and trying to spend more time with friends and family as their support takes my mind off it. I suggest you do the same and of course we can all support each other . Hopefully we will be able to look back after few months and feel stronger that we have been through it and we are better now. Take care x
Hi Simone, bless you - this Is a lovely supportive group and if you need us we will be there for you. I was diagnosed in Nov, had op in Jan and finished my radiotherapy two weeks ago. I wrote this thread after my hysterectomy and you may find it useful community.macmillan.org.uk/.../hysterectomy-day-and-after---diary
Hi Simone00. Welcome to the group. I had my hysterectomy six days ago. It's been a tough few days and physically wearing but turning a corner now. I have found I am getting such pleasure in the tiniest of things. I have always been such a preoccupied, very anxious person and I feel like this a life lesson for good. Add to that my skin looks amazingly clear having worn no make up for days on end! ::) Everyone here will be your cheerleader.
Hi
Bless you for sharing such a positive outlook. Things will get better and better each day . Look after yourself . I have been reading a lot on internet and it appears very scary but when I read experiences of people like you it fills me with positivity and gives me hope that I too will find myself in better plans once the surgery is over. Look after yourself x
Hi
i was only diagnosed few days so I am wondering how long will they take until I am called for surgery. I still have fear and concern as I think I made the mistake of reading a lot on internet which makes it scary as word cancer itself is still quite scary even though when caught in early stage it can be fully treated. It is bit emotional time as my husband is worried and my two children. I haven’t told my mother as she is old. I hope things will get better after surgery . I am normally quite positive but initial shock takes bit of time. I hope you are getting better each day . Look after yourself and thank you for sharing your experience. X
Hiya
Thank you so much for sharing such detailed day to day update. I am happy to read how things worked out for you. I am still going through emotional period as it is quite shocking to be told you have early stages cancer as the word cancer still instills instant fear although early stage is highly curable and actually lot of people survive stage 2 or even more . I think there needs to be more openness and focus on positive aspects . I am sure I will come out of it as I am quite positive I just want to get the surgery done . Waiting for date . Is fully staging diagnosis done after surgery or what they normally tell before is accurate . Many thanks god bless you x
Hi Simone, may I please give you some advice? Don’t Google it but instead stick to reliable balanced sources - Macmillan being the main one. Also talk to your CNS - I phoned mine once or twice a week in the early days. To give you a summary of my hysterectomy experience, I had my op (laparoscopic) on the Saturday, came home Sunday lunchtime, went for a gentle 5 minute walk that same afternoon, didn’t need any pain relief and didn’t bleed at all; went for 2 x 5 min walks every day after that, gradually slowly increasing the time till by 2 weeks post op I was up to 20-30 mins twice a day. I listened to my body - gently pushed myself when I felt like it, and fully rested when I felt like it. I was driving short very local distances by 3 weeks post op. Everyone is different but good experiences are very possible!
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
