Good morning all - thank you for the lovely support and advice available from you all on this site. I have a rather tricky problem since my radical hysterectomy - I have constant wind and have to open my bowels each time I eat anything at all. I smell and sound like a cart horse!! The operation was done two weeks ago this coming Tuesday - I haven't seen or heard anything about this being a problem that is generally experienced so wondered if any of you had a similar issue??!! Thank you,
I wasn’t quite as bad you but I had to go the toilet a lot more after my surgery last November at it wasn’t pleasant. My bowels are still like that now, I still go more then I used to and a lot of the times it still came smell unpleasant. X
Thanks Stelliebug I've just finished my breakfast! LOL. I think it's normal to have a change in bowel habits after the op, things might have been moved around inside of us as well as removed so things will take a little time to settle down.
Have a chat with your CNS tomorrow or call the Macmillan Support helpline, freephone number below and speak to a nurse. I had to avoid a fibre rich diet as I'd developed diverticulosis so my gut had become a fermentation vat.
Big hugs, from a distance, Barb xx

Hi Stelliebug, bless you, that must be difficult. I’d recommend mentioning it to your CNS but would also suggest avoiding any foods that typically cause wind - pulses, cabbage, onions, seeded bread, fried food, spicy food, fatty food, fizzy drinks.
I had a problem with my bowels - they refused to work at all for the first week the by the time I got home 2 weeks post op they were working but I had terrible wind and went quite frequently and was very loose however, I’m now 6 weeks post op and bowels are back to normal. The bowel doesn’t like handling so does often play up after abdominal surgery - give it time, watch what you eat and it should return to normal soon.

Hi Stelliebug,
My bowels were different after the operation, but not too bad. I guessed they had a bit more room in there, and that's why they were different. I've learnt a lot about bowels recently as my husband had a bowel operation. They don't like being handled or moved around. I would think your problems will settle, but ask your CNS.
